Yeah that was my first water crossing.:D I was nervous as hell looking at how fast the water was flowing. It did start pushing the back end of the truck. I've done some others since, but didn't get any videos. The other guys just said to go as fast as I could (which I didn't), guess they were thinking it was like a mud run.

Any chance the safari snorkels could get ripped off by some branches or something?

The first one is always the hardest. That's why I did mine close to home (only a 5 to 10 min walk of shame if I had to get my PreTaco to pull it out).

No. Essentially. If you're super worried in some spot though you can turn the head piece around like this:

I was half expecting to get pushed sideways, get caught on some rocks along the bottom and get flipped over. :anonymous: There was a dodge ahead of me that had a Cooper STT blowout on the rocks during the crossing.

Cool. Can they be modified to fit 4 bangers? IIRC, they only listed V6s.

Mine has taken some pretty good hang-ups on tree branches and has done fine.
They are pretty sturdy and well attached to the A-pillar.

I'm sure you can find a way to do that accidentally on purpose...

Buy one it's totally worth it I put mine on by myself in 2 1/2 hours but an hour of that was making my Bushwacker flares fit again it's easy and looks alot cleaner than a custom one...

Definitely worth the $ to buy one. They have some great engineering to help keep your motor safe. Sure you can build one (i have built my own in the past) but for a clean look and good function the real deal is the way to go.

Some people just don't know any better. Fast = wave over hood and slow = water under bumper. It all really depends on conditions though.

Yes....do NOT go through an automatic car wash. I have seen pics of a guy who did and needless to say that a-pillar is a bitch to fix on a Tacoma since it goes front to back. That said my buddy bounced his FJ snorkel off a tree last week and it was fine. the snorkel itself is pretty much indestructible it's the truck that isn't. I have seen a 2nd gen Taco run right over a snorkel and the snorkel was fine.

that is always a risk...you need to use common sense and be careful.

was he doing 50mph? that would explain it or the fact a full size truck is heavy

yes...see the snorkel install thread. a 4 cylinder is easier then a v6 and requires less aftermarket parts.....edit: I didn't notice you were first gen...no clue sorry. 2nd gen is super easy with 4 banger
