I couldn’t find a thread on this, which doesn’t surprise me because I am an idiot.

We got a little snow in my town so I was trying to drift my Tacoma in a flat dirt lot. I was in 2wd with the traction control turned off.

I was able to swing out the back end and slide, but when I would turn into the slide I hear almost like grinding noise come from the front end. I am pretty sure it’s the front tires sliding on the snow and gravel, but I just wanted to get TW’s expert advise.

    Don’t judge me :anonymous:

you sure you've got traction control turned all the way off? You gotta hold the button for 3sec, not just press it

Stop, push and hold the traction control for 3+ seconds, go have fun. It should be easy to swing it around in donuts with a little gas and steering input.

What he said. You have to hold it and you’ll have 2 different lights turn on.

Okay that’s definitely what it was. I didn’t hold the button down and the sound I hear sounds like when the traction control kicks in. More snow in the forecast next week. I’ll give it a shot. Thanks everyone for the quick responses, just making sure I’m not f&@king my truck up!!

If you keep doing it you will, first to go will be the rack and pinion.

Diffs like to explode doing this stuff, high speed on one axle while the other is stationary is bad.

Make sure the area is flat while your being an idiot....even slightly bumpy terrain combined with momentum can lead to a rollover.

Once in a while in unplowed parking lots is pretty harmless fun though.

When I was in high school, 2 of my friends and I were drifting around on a muddy baseball field in a old 70’s Datsun pickup and almost rolled it on the pitchers mound - we slid slowly sideways into the mound and it tipped high up on two wheels, hung there for what seemed like seconds, then came back down on its 4 wheels. We were all saying “whoaaaa!” while it happened. It was really close to rolling over. Good lesson learned. Man, did we tear up the infield!
