I just bought a set of Goodyear Wrangler TD's {265/75/16C} for 137.50 a piece otd. They have a pretty agressive tread on them.

I'm just sayin , if i recall it rates high for mud too.
Btw i almost bought a set lol, or silent armor too.
It came down to local dealers, goodyear sorta sneered when i mentioned TPMS so I went with Les Schwab again, they reprogram free for my 2 sets of tires. Either way they get me skiing w/o fail ,to work too during snow and ice events.

General grabbers. the BFG AT Ko's I hated this past winter. Thus far the Generals are Awesome. I am in watertown so I too worry about good snow tires.

I live by Delhi, Ny on top of a hill.. My driveway is solid ice in the winter.. I had the BF AT last year and they were ok, but they were on my 98 tacoma.. The 06' tacoma I am a little scared will be hard to drive in the snow..

I drove on the grandtrek's at20 last winter on ice, they scared me, but for a stock tire,I have to admit ,they didnt go out of control on some sheet ice that spun the volvo behind me. I'm saving the stock tire/rims as my summer set.

285's look better with a lift but i'm curious to see how they'll handle in the snow since i would have been better off w/ a 265 in winter/snow/ice

the duratracs drive great. after doing the chalk test to see what pressure give me a good even tire wear on front and back, they drive great. they do make a little noise, but can only hear if radio is off and trying to listen. drive great in the rain, have had no problems at all. waiting for some serious snow now to go have some fun.

I live north of Toronto in Ontario Canada. I use Michelin X-Ice tires. They work very good on ice and good in moderate snow. In really deep snow (off the road) they are not as good as my BFG's AT's as the tread is not as aggressive.
I like haveing the dedicated snow tires and rims as they save my factory aluminum rims.

This is the first time that I have run a dedicated snow tire on a 4x4 truck. All my other Toyotas (84 4 runner, 85 4 runner and 96 Tacoma) have all just had AT's.
As some other memebr's posted, a there is a significant difference between an AT and a dedicated snow tire when it comes to ice/snow.

Its a real eye opener using something snow rated. You actually have to consider stopping and watching the rear view mirror in case someone is sliding. What bothers me is with the previous in mind, it seems a scam to put "M+S" on any tire be it a truck or a car a.s.r.

The TD's handle fine on dry pavement with very little noise even on the freeway.

I run the Michelin X-ice on steel rims, they are great! Night and day from the AT 20's.

Are thinner tires better thicker ones in snow/ice? As in 285's vs. 245's.

Thinner is better in deep snow bigtime, just slow down or your in for a wild ride when your passing or hit that drift.

What is the best price your finding on the duratracs 285/70/17s?

I just love the duratracs...I'm just waiting for the prices to come down or some nice rebates to roll out. I'll probably just roll the Stock Bridgestones through winter here, only 20k on them now...wife won't let me get new tires till their toast or tax rebate time:D

$210/tire and a $20 rebate. Which is still pretty high.

I got a set of new Firestone Winterforce tires mounted on knock-off rims from ebay seller "bernstra" for $600 last year. I believe he has a tire shop in CT. I studded them for an extra $20/tire.

Those tires have been awesome. Lots of big meaty tread for snow drifts. Great grip on ice, too. No noticeable tire wear after one winter.
