I decided Im going to purchase snow tires this year. The stock size on the off road is 265 70 16. Should i switch to 245 75 16 for snow tires? I heard thinner were better, at least for road driving in the snow. Also, dont some shops give you crap if you try to put a different size tire than whats on the sticker? Im pretty sure both sizes are options right?

That happens to be the stock size tire for base and sr5 model six lug trucks. Exact same outside diameter and the correct width for your stock 7.5" wide wheel. Nobody will give you crap for it. The narrower tire will help in slushy conditions and compact snow, but hinder in situations where floatation is key. I would never replace my tires for such a small change in width unless mine were worn... are you getting a second set on rims to swap out for winter?

Ive had the tacoma for 3 winters and havent had snow tires, but decided this is the year. yesterday we had some ice and almost lost it 3 times, not driving like an ass either. I wanted to to do separate wheels, but i cant find a good deal on used. Are you saying the 245 is stock for the base and sr5? Also, not that it matters because the tires will still fit, but my stock rim width is 7". Thanks for your input.

Yeah, base and sr5 came with 245/75/16 dunlops that were awful tires. Keep your eye on the classifieds here and craigslist and you'll see oem steel or alloy wheels pop up quite frequently!

It seems all the rims being sold are in Florida or socal haha. They go quick up here in New England, if you see them. I guess I'll go for the 245's then,
