    Thanks for the load suggestion, that's something I wouldn't needed to think much with sedans. My son is the key though. I'll put him with "booster" seat in the bed when i get stuck. ; )

    I once rode a chairlift with an older skier. She said that when she was a kid, the family would drive from someplace far away on Friday night to go skiing in Vermont on the weekend. All of the kids would be sound asleep in the back of the car until the last big hill before the ski area when they would get woken up so they could stand on the rear bumper to help the car make it up the hill.

    My motto: "The skiing's the best when the roads are the worst".

    I must disagree about 4WD not helping you stop. There is a breaking effect of having front and rear operating together. That said it is correct that people can get overconfident in the ability to stop a 4WD in snow/ice and need to be careful.
