I would say try some on in a shop to see what you like and then look online for similar ones if you don't find something you love.

I have a 4 or 5 year old sessions jacket that has been worn over 200 days of riding, many of those have been very nasty weather. I have treated it with the nikwax products a couple times and had the zippers redone last year. I have many other good riding jackets but this one is by far my favorite.

Volcom also makes some good outerwear. My favorite pair of riding pants were made by them and they have stood up to some nasty shit too.

Burton makes some nice stuff but I personally wont buy anything made by them.

Dogfunk.com and the-house.com are 2 good sites for gear.

Anything Gore Tex should keep you pretty dry.

I've got all kinds of gear, from a heavy-ass Columbia component jacket I bought in 2002 to insulated shred jackets to lightweight shells.

I like to layer. I wear Columbia Gore Tex pants with a pair of scrub pants under them for warmth and my favorite top system right now is a Stoic hard shell over a fleece or wool mid layer and a Dri-Fit (poly-pro) base layer.

Been up about 20 times here in Wyoming, 10 resort days and 10 BC days. Looks like the high pressure system is getting outta here so snow should be coming in strong soon. Think I'll hit the resort this afternoon, just started to snow again:D
