I think i have decided this year to finally put a plow on, thinking Western Defender steel plow. I always take care of my stuff so the truck should be ok, wont be ramming any snowbanks back.

    Hmm . . . none as yet, that's why i'm here . . .
Another Upstate New Yorker here, Sno-way with down pressure on my 08 access cab. This thing is a beast. Will do what ever you ask of it but just be smart about it. No problem with a foot plus of snow. Its an animal.

I wish I had the Sno-Way just for the down pressure. It would be great for back dragging.

Same setup here on 2010 DCLB. Love the SnoWay! Put that thing through a ton of snow over the past few years.

Yeah I've noticed that on the dealer inspection sheets for used cars we have to fill out asks if the vehicle has a snow plow, I am assuming that gets factored into what is covered and what is not. I live in New Orleans so I'll never know.

Plowing can be extremely hard on a vehicle. GM vehicles in particular, have a history of frame pretzeling ripping out UCA mounts.
Its also EXTREMELY destructive on automatic transmissions, because when it goes to shift, there's really no coasting, so it has to shift HARD.

So, by saying that, you imply that we should not use our Taco for snowplowing and if we do we should bear the consequences?

Depends on how much snow, but yeah I basically agree with this. I plow with a 1-cylinder Honda Rancher quad, so it's not that a Taco couldn't do it. But I got the quad basically to just plow and do other work around the property. I wouldn't wanna plow with a daily driver that costs a lot of money to fix.

I have an 01 tacoma access cab, 2.7L 5 speed manual. I've got an older Fisher steel plow hydraulic set-up, I converted to electric. It came off an 1980's toyota pick-up. The plow is 6'6" wide, 22" tall, just too narrow for the 01 Tacoma, so I used steel extenders for the last three seasons and they worked well. The plow moldboard is now rusted, cracked and shot but the plow frame is in great shape. I didn't see the need for plow lights as the plow was low enough for the truck lights to work and I rarely drove the plow at night. I'm also looking into a Western Defender, or Western Midweight poly to somehow fabricate onto the Fisher frame. I'll post back any info and any info is appreciated.
Also, anyone saying this truck can't push snow is wrong as it has been great and basically like a tractor in snow.

Anyone in the Poughkeepsie area with a SnoWay? Having some trouble with mine and looking to see if it's my controller or electonics. Would love to meet if possible to try your controller on my system to determine if it's my controller or computer. Thanks in advance!

Thanks. I forgot about them. Will give a call tomorrow.
Was at the dealer in Middletown recently as well. Looking for some troubleshooting since I can't figure out what my electrical problem is. Hoping it's something simple

If you don’t mind sharing the info, how much did the set-up cost installed?

It's been a while since I posted in here, but figured I'd share some things I don't like about my Fisher HS, that I show in this tread.

One, the headlight lenses fall off. There isn't much of a plastic clip holding them on, and I ended up having to use Gorilla Tape to hold the lenses on.

Also, more than 8 inches of show and it's tricking plowing.

Lastly, I was using all season radials last year and got stuck for the third season in a row.

I switched to Nokia Snow tires and that did the trick.

Oh and one more thing, when the plow is on and connected, there seems to be a slow draw on the battery, that if I don't get to drive the truck often enough to recharge the battery, it will end up dead.

Got stuck twice in the past two years with a dead battery.

I tried using a volt meter to see if there was a draw, but it's probably so small I could see it.

I may just unplug the connectors between use.

Nice review, I have the western defender, the HS counterpart, same plow. Good to know about the lenses. I am guessing these are the halogens? Clips still look good after a winter. I do see that some of the clips are sonic welded, so maybe they identified some weakness there.

We just had our first plowable storm last weekend. Plowed about 4-5 inches of the heaviest snow I have ever dealt with. Plowed ok overall but the lightness of the truck showed. I just take it easy and try not to do it the quickest, but the best speed for the truck and taking smaller bites. I have a somewhat tricky driveway so I try to envision the moves ahead of time so I don’t leave a bank somewhere. This past wet snow, if you left a good size pile and tried to move it again, it took a good run to get it to move again. That’s where you have to be careful, that’s the stuff that can start beating up your truck and plow.

still overall really happy. If I bought a plow that didn’t have angling from the cab I would have sold it already. For a light plow, it scrapes extremely well. Back dragging is ok in powder, heavy wet pretty weak. Plow a little forward, then drag, again really small bites.

I too plowed last week-end, six inches of heavy wet snow. I'm getting better at it and it all went well.

Taking my time is the key.

As far as the lenses, the little plastic clips that hold them on, snapped off two years ago, probably from the cold.

Anyway, the gorilla tape did the trick.

However, I did unplug the connectors after plowing, and reconnected them yesterday to take the truck for a ride. Then unconnected them again. I don't want another dead battery.

My neighbor down the road has a Tacoma and she bought her plow off the internet, then paid a guy to install it.

She loves it and says it's easy to mount. If I had to do it again knowing what I know now, I would not buy a Fisher HS.

i will say at times the plow can be a chore to mount. I usually keep it garaged and on dollies. Doing it that way i can slide it in ok, and i use a speed clamp between the plow and bracket across the headlights to raise or lift the pin holes to snap in. last weekend i had the plow itself on dollies but the stand on the ground, it went horrible and took a good 30 minutes to get it sorted.

I would probably buy again, for the price installed it is what it is, a lightweight plow that does what its supposed to, and nothing it shouldnt.

Yeah I found last week-end, that the stand has to be down enough to have the mounts high enough so when I drive the truck forward, they slid above the bottom pin on the shackles.

Last year I use to take the plow on and off often.

This year I forgot that little rule about the stand. :D
