Well, I've already plowed three small storms of wet snow and it went well

Today, we're getting a foot of powdery snow.

So, I decided to go out and make a pass before it ends.

However, we already had 10 inches. Took a lot more work to move the banks that came off the plow.

Now I understand the benefit of plowing with the storm, like at 6 inches.

Anyway, snow plowing is an art and I love art. :D

I keep forgetting to take pics when I am out plowing with the truck. Partly because its colder than a witches tit out there too. brrr I have also been plowing a couple of my neighbors driveways too. The one neighbor brought me a nice bottle of wine the other night. :)

That is definitely an advantage of having a heavy old 'Murican beast to plow with. I can shove a 2 foot storm around without any difficulty, even after the town plows go through and kick up a 4 or 5 foot heater bank. But, until the hydraulics warm up, raising/lowering/angling the plow goes somewhat slowly unless I rev the engine while I make the adjustments, so electric has the advantage there. The stuff we've gotten so far this year has been easy because it's all been super dry and light, since it's been so cold. But, because it has been so cold, there have been no pictures taken, lol.

Should be fun tomorrow, since the driveway's still defrosted. I already graded it a little bit last week, even through I tried to float the plow as much as possible.

3rd storm for March on the way late tonight and tomorrow.

Damn glad I bought the Fisher HS for my Tacoma.

Working out really good. Just have to get out at about 8" and not wait for it to pile up to a foot.

Does it roll back over the top, or does the truck just have a hard time pushing more than that because of the weight of the truck? I'm assuming you're plowing in 4Low

This storm actually shouldn't be that bad; the cold weather last night seems to have set the driveway up a little bit harder, so as long as I float the plow it shouldn't grade too badly.

I have never had to plow in 4 low. Even the last storm was really wet heavy and deep snow and I was able to plow in 4 high.

How do your transmission temps do with it?

I have never had them get very high. I do have a cooler on my truck.

It doesn't roll back over the plow, but then, I haven't let the snow get so deep to find out.

I try to plow at 8 inches, as a guy who services and sells plows, told me not to wait for more than 8 inches.

I stay in drive the entire time with no problem.

In fact, there is a small section where I have to plow uphill, and the Tacoma pushes it up, no problem while in drive.

We're suppose to get 12-18 inches this storm. I just plowed off the first 6 inches.

    Don't know, I don't have a transmission gauge.

    I'm driving an automatic transmission.

I have the scanguage to monitor my transmission temps and I get higher temperatures when I am towing a trailer than when I am plowing.

Great thread, thanks to all. Considering a plow for my 2015. The idea of a V plow interests me. Mainly because my driveway is long (500') and narrow (one car wide). I also wonder if the V plow makes plowing easier on the truck??

If you can wing the snow off to one side of said narrow driveway, a conventional plow is actually just as good, if not better because they're simpler. V's are more useful for doing wider areas where cleanup is a pain if you can't scoop, or for plowing especially deep or heavy snow. Although they can stack snow a bit higher than a straight blade, if you're doing in scoop mode.

Due to the added weight, V's tend to be heavier than a comparably sized straight blade, so they'd be harder on the front suspension components.

Each driver plows differently.. You may find better ways each time you plow... You might setup your landscaping differently because you were thinking this would be easer if... I use a conventional blade and I have no problems .. My drive is 400+
    [IMG]

My blade is poly with a metal frame ..cuts down on front end weight.

With that width do you make a pass down the center with the blade locked straight and then run down each side with it angled to wing the snow off the sides?
