    Also, just noticed, this is a good fix. Notice how you can see daylight through the steering shaft boot area? Those are replaceable and keep tons of engine heat and noise out.

    Yeah that is on the list, trying to figure out what my code 28 is first. I bkught 2 new NTK 24044 O2 sensors but both meter out at too low of resistance at 4.8 and 4.9 Ohms. I probably need to service my injectors too... getting about 10mpg highway now.

    Yeah its a full float rear. Going to be deleting ABS as it was throwing a code and don't really care to fix it.

    Spare tire hoop carrier. Ratchet strap over the circumference of the tire to secure it.

    Found it in the backseat of an old F150 a friend and I flipped from an auction. That truck had some weird things about it.

    Before the trip I figured out what was going on with my oxygen sensor code... a shitty repair that had corroded away.

    It was great wheeling without a CEL for once. My Taco always had a P0420 cat code.

    This is the third year of me teaching myself how to hunt big game in Alaska. I had never been hunting before then but had always wanted to try so we could have good healthy protein to eat throughout the year. The first year was a helter-skelter trip that terminated in an unsuccessful late night stalk many miles from camp and driving through rivers back to camp until 2 am. You feel pretty small in Alaska when your headlights dip below a river in the middle of the night miles from anyone and you hope that your headlights pop back up and your Toyota pulls you out of a deep river crossing.


    This area is incredibly beautiful, but the area is very much still wild and as such, broken and sunk rigs, side by sides, and 4 wheelers, are quite common. Recoveries can range from $500 to many thousands of dollars-I know of one that cost $17,000 for a side by side to give you an idea.

    By this point my wife is getting a little nervous as there was a large washout that took out the trail getting to this point which meant I had to navigate some off-camber stuff. I pretended to not be too nervous so my wife would stay calm, but not going to lie, I was puckering a little.

    By this point we are planning on going a lot further to set up our base camp. So we grab some water bottles, crack a snack or two open and head for the descent of monument.

    The descent is very steep and this mountain gives many people nightmares. There are pieces of glass and machines littering both sides of the trail. Last fall, I ran into a family with a small and severely overloaded Kymco side by side and 4 wheeler that was stuck in one of the more precarious spots that I ended up helping tow up the hill. The guy rolled his 4 wheeler and was very frantic. I ended up towing the side by side and trailer up and then winched it after unhooking it from the rear bumper.

    The descent goes without a hitch but is a little bumpy and torn up. The Land Cruiser is taking everything I give it like a champ and much smoother and quieter than my Tacoma, much to my wife's pleasure.

    After some time, I see movement and let off the gas. Then hit the breaks! There is a lone caribou crossing in front of me, so I hop out real quick, grab my rifle, chamber a round and connect with my first shot while grabbing a knee. I hit high and steady for another shot but the caribou is already on the ground. I land a follow up shot thru the skull and she is down. We are all quite excited at how quick that was, and surprised as well. Right after we commence butchering a fellow Toyota enthusiast rolls buy in another 80 series Land Cruiser and a sweet 40 series on 42s.

    We make quick work of quartering and butchering her up and get moving since there is now a large rain cloud heading our way and we have miles of rivers and steep trails ahead. The Land Cruiser is stuffed with gear, food, gas, and my coworkers stuff as well so we all cram it a little more and get going as the rain clouds roll in.

    My coworker is following behind in his little 400cc Arctic Cat which means sometimes he follows right behind me and sometimes he watches me and poops his pants, then tries to find another way not as deep. Well a few miles after this he blows a bead and tons of sand and gravel in the bead. Even though this is his second year coming, he didn't think a spare tire, tube, rim, or air supply was necessary... So I proceed to try airing it up which fails (obviously but hey gotta try right?) so we let it air itself down until I can push the bead in by hand and he squirts one of my water bottles in the bead to try and move the sand/gravel out of the way. After doing this in the pouring rain for 10 minutes on a steep incline, I air it up and it seems to hold air. We press on.

    Right before the bead incident, my wife sees two caribou, one large bull and another cow hanging with him. We try and find a way to get into position to take these two but we are unsuccesful as they already were spooked and running. After we drive over the next mountain we end up seeing the same two caribou running ahead of us, crossing the trail and running across the high valley to another mountain. Very impressive animals, and no surprise why their lungs and hearts are so large.

    After these two are miles away, we see a lone caribou and try and stalk it, but it winded us and is putting significant yardage between us even with me stalking it so we head back tot he rig to keep going to camp.

    At this point my wife who doesnt like offroading and jostling around in the cab is getting tired of the wheeling aspect of hunting. I speed it up a notch and keep going to our camp. We arrive just before 8pm which was her "I don't care where we are at 8pm, we are stopping for the night" time we agreed upon. Some of the rivers were very deep getting here. Over the top of my highlift jack on top of my ARB bumper deep. Luckily it wasnt raining anymore though so we pitch our tent and my coworker sets his up too and we go to bed dreaming of caribou.

    Basically the same it sounds like except doing the rear seal and bearing. Just was leaking.
