Those do seem like a good basic light-duty plow. It wouldn't hold up to a big storm like what we get in my area, but it's a good light-duty unit. Around here we just get such wet heavy snow that you need a real plow. Either that or you have to plow every hour or two, which isn't an option for me because I have to go to work all day when it snows, whether it's 2 inches or 2 feet. :notsure:
Use it like it's supposed to be used and it should last you a good long time!

Truth. Like you suggest comes down to using the right tool for the job. I *know* that I would twist the 2" square tube off the first time out.

I had looked at the Homesteader like what Leggo has when I first got my '10, but I just couldn't swallow the cost for the plow plus install. I ended up going a slightly heavier-duty route for around half price.

I've got stuff like that too. The problem with "those", is that they're stuck to the property.

Mine's registered, insured, and driven regularly. Costs me around $70 a year for the reg and around $100 for insurance. :notsure:

For me it's worth it because it means the GF can take the Tacoma on snowy days instead of her gumdrop Honda Fit. And I'll take the plow truck and just drop the blade when I pull into the driveway.

My snow plow is ONLY for my and my folks driveway. I agree, it's not for heavy wet big storms. Last year we got pounded but it was very cold so the snow was light. It will do the heavy wet stuff if your only doing a driveway and not parking lots. I quit doing commercial snow plowing twenty years ago. I had a 78 dodge powerwagon like the one shown. That thing was the best plow truck I've ever seen.

For sure. That storm we got the last week of January dumped 28 inches and it was like Colorado snow. I had a huge heater bank at the end of my driveway and massive snowdrifts in front of the garage, but they didn't even slow me down. Part of it was that it was such light fluffy snow, and the other part is that those old Dodges are beasts. I've got the 4 speed NP435 in mine and in low range it'll push an amazing amount of snow. Extremely slowly.

Mine was a 1/2 ton slant six with an auto, full time 4wd and it did things the f-250's had trouble with.

    HA!
Mine's got the /6 in it too. Not going to win any drag races, but man can it push snow.
I do wish mine was a late-70's model; I like the front fascia on them better than the 80's trucks.

Your winch setup idea is brilliant I think! I also have this plow and have been searching for the ideas how to simply hook up the winch but most of other set-ups I found on Youtube require a welding job w/pulley. I think this is the simplest way for lifting this plow and it's good that it can be also easily taken off.

Can you please share more details? From the pictures it looks like just a flat metal bar is screwed onto the pin holes. Is this custom-made or purchased at home-depot? And do you find it's strong enough to hold the plow while it's moving up and down?

    Thanks.

Did you have to do any modifications to your Tacoma to mount the plow? Is it worth getting the HD if you took off the ends anyways, or should I just order the LT version without the ends? Thank you for the honest detailed review.

What do you plan to plow with it?

If you're planning to plow a pile of plows, then I suggest a bulldozer.

I am still waiting for a storm that is too big for this plow.. but....I have only had it this year.. and so far..I just plow one time. Not every two hours:rofl:
So far it's way more than I expected. Much cheaper than my alternative.
Worst part is no downward pressure..

To be fair, we haven't had any good-sized storms yet this year, either. Just a few inches at a time that gets rained on afterwards. I'm still waiting on a good 18 inch storm to put my new rig through its paces with :pout:

Its been my one holdoff trying out this plow, the icy storms where scraping is necessary, my steep drive requires getting to blacktop.

No your 100% right we haven't got much in Orono either.
Some people act like they'll break from normal use. I think they can handle alot..
Alot more than I'd put my little truck through:rofl:
But in no way replaces a plow that cost 3x as much. Or a full size truck!
I Just wanted to throw that out there for others who may be in my same situation (needing a plow but not wanting or needing to spent 5k or add weight)

Someday I'll have a plow truck and hydrolic plow but my $1k just wasn't enough:burp::spending:

I have dirt but it's also very steep.
These plows will not scrape bare on dirt (not sure on tar) even with the dumb downward pressure strap.
    It's a cost vs need.
If I had 5k I'd do it different... lol I'd buy a an armor bumper and a snowsport

Yeah, my concern for their durability comes more from my experience with those wet, heavy snows that we get in March and occasionally April, where it'll drop 12 inches of dense heavy stuff overnight. Snowfalls like that are a lot more likely to bend something, even on a full-sized plow, especially because by that time of year you're typically running out of room to put it all and have to do more shoving/pushing to get it stacked and out of the way.
