Made a trip out to Flat Nasty in Southern MO for the yearly pilgrimage of shenanigans, wheeling and camping. No breaks on the Tacoma, just point and shoot as usual. Some others were not so lucky...

-4th gen 4Runner bites the dust on the access road...Knocked a 4x4x3 boulder about 16 feet in the air for a total of 21' of movement. Waiting on the word but I think it may be a total even with just 45k on it. Took out the spindle, LCA, UCA, bent the frame, and folded the inner fender up. Somehow the air bags didn't go off. No idea how he's getting home since his wheeler came on a u-haul trailer and is un-registered.

-Lost a drive shaft on a mini that sounded like a shotgun when it went and flung parts in various directions.

So I broke down today, channeled my inner expo guy and ordered some rock lights, switch, a fuse block, and a trailer light converter so that I can combine my brake and turn signal circuits and lose the blinding white turn signals. Only took me two years to properly finish that project and get reverse lights...

So I see you have the 80 rear axle. My question is do you still drive this on the road? I want to run an 80 rear but I've been told that I will get a vibration because the axle is off set.

I drive it at least 50 miles a week up on the highway and would drive it anywhere in the country on the road without hesitation. Just pointed the flange at the carrier bearing and burned in the perches. I have no vibes at all with the 80 axle in...same goes for @slander and another one of the guys I wheel with that swapped one in his 4Runner too.

nice work showing those spider gears in the rear end reminds me of when I sheared mine in my Comanche and drove home with the front end carrying me.

what kind of freeway speeds do you hit? I often drive 85 (same speed as all traffic around here)

Sustained at 80 has no vibes, fastest I’ve gone is 85 with no issues either, but I typically cruise at 75. The 3RZ won’t push me much faster than that without putting up a big fight with the 37’s

Just set the pinion angle correct and you will be okay. I have no more vibes now than when I had the stock axle in there.

IE...hold a 2x4 on end against the flange and adjust till it points just below the center of the carrier bearing nut

I went kind of scientific and used a $5 digital angle finder off Amazon, but the 2x4 works as well

Little photo dump from Harlan... Awesome trip. Finally ran Lion’s Den with just a little brush on the fender...kissed just about every bar on the cage though. Spectacular trail for sure

    Ha Mark took it so...

We didn’t, it was slick from rain and the entry to mason jar is super nasty now. Like roll off the mountain and die if it goes wrong so that was a hard pass
