This is only my second post so please bare with me as I am new to the forums. I think that I might be getting a Snugtop camper shell soon and I am trying to find some information on how to install the shell on the truck. I need specifics as I will be installing the shell on the spot, but any information is appreciated. Thanks in advance TW!

Do you have a bedliner that wraps over the top of the bed? Had to remove it in order to fit the Snugtop. Is the top new or used? If used, get new weatherstripping for it before installing on the truck.

When I bought the truck they asked me if I was ever gonna put a camper shell on it and I said maybe in the near future, so I got the OEM bedliner that doesn't wrap over the edge of the bed. Are camper shells usually just clamped down? I tried searching for videos but I couldn't find one that really went into detail about how the shell is actually mounted.

Yes, they're clamped down.. mine has 4, I think others have 6.

You should consider giving a call or email to SnugTop and see if they can provide any installation materials for you (and any parts you might need). They'll likely refer you to a local dealer for parts, which is another option you can use for your questions.

I bought my SnugTop used and the local dealer here was excellent, and didn't drag me over the coals for not buying new when I needed replacement parts.

So I called up a couple of dealers in my area and they had suggested to get the serial number from the truck. This way they could identify exactly what seals and clamps I need in order to install it. One of them even suggested to just use 4 x C clamps in order to get from point A to Point B.

    C clamps are perfectly fine.

Though they shouldn't need your truck serial number.. they just need the serial number of your camper shell.

    Sounds normal to me.

The SnugTop clamps are pretty much the same as a C clamp, just smaller, look different, and are more expensive. They work the same, though.

    Food for thought. ;)

I really wanted it for storage as the fam and I will visiting Lake Tahoe in a couple of weeks here. The last time it was a hassle because I was carrying 4 people, including 1 car seat, several duffel bags, sleds, boards and boots, and I would have either, stand guard by the truck when ever we stopped anywhere, try to pack everything inside the cab.

This will be my first time having camper shell, and with that being said, I'm a little skeptical thinking about taking the journey with just c clamps holding down the bed. I wont be able to assure myself until I get the shell on and fully clamped down with 4 C clamps, but it seems from what I've seen and being hearing it will do the job. Thanks TW!

This is pretty much what the SnugTop clamp consists of.

As you can see, it's not much different in function, just appearance.

If you can't get proper clamps before your trip then a handful of C clamps will be just fine. Where are you located?

San Jose, California. Wow I can see what you mean how the functionality is the same, just form factor.

Should be a Campways there that can take care of you.. if not, Campways in Santa Rosa is great. You want to talk to Cass.

dreams crushed... I got the serial number and had a authorized snugtop dealer check the make and model. Unfortunately its for an extended cab, roughly about 75" long, so any of you that is looking for one you can see the images above. They want $700 for it.

I'd look on Craigslist. They come and go pretty frequently on there. I ended up getting a sweet hi liner camper shell for $300.

    Pretty much stock right now
That's a pretty nice shell. I have an A.R.E. MX and really like it. Price is a bit high for used though.
