So about regearing my truck...

I am looking for what gearing I should go to in order to regear my truck, she came stock on 225/75/15 tires and I'm rolling on 31s now. I hate the loss in power I took. I am looking at lifting some more and setting it on 33" tires, maybe 32".

The question is, what gear ratio should I throw in there? 4.56 or 4.88?
I currently don't have a hitch but may do some light towing in the future, also my elevation is a few hundred feet above see level.

V6
Auto Trans.
Currently 3.91 gear ratio

I am thinking that 4.56 would be the way to go, or are they overkill on a 32" tire or 33/1050/15?

I used the site but don't know the transfercase. It's giving me some BS about on road speed being 200mph at 6000rpm in 4th lol

 

I went 4:88 on 35's manual transmission my truck is 90% off road. Not my daily driver. I still wish I had more low end for rock crawling. 4.56 should be good with 33's and auto

 

4;56 is probably the best ratio for what your planning. I have 4;88s on mine and 33's i feel its a bit high and could easily run 35's which is my target sizes.

 

Do it 35's are nice for off road..

 

Ok thanks guys, I will most likely do 4.56 since my truck is my only vehicle. It doesn't really see off-roading that much.

I also rechecked that gearing calculator and 4.56 with 33s matchs perfectly to the 3.91 and 225/75/15 I had. So I guess the only difference would be tire weight

 

My truck is my DD and I'm running 4.88 on 33's. It gave me back all the power I lost. Also on the interstate I have power to accelerate and pass people which I did not have before. Also the rpm difference between 4.56 and 4.88 is only 250 or something pretty low.

 

I think it depends on the tire you end up choosing. If you go with 32s, then 4.56s will probably be adequate.

But I have to agree with CLOUDLIGHT, going to 4.88s is the best mod I have done. With 33s it is the perfect combination for the auto IMO.

 

My 96 auto trans came geared with 456 gears, and I believe 31 inch tires. Love the gearing with my 5 speed!
