Hey now! I have a question for you San Diego Tacoma owners about the rear leaf spring recall. I recently inherited a totally stock 07 AC Prerunner. A couple of weeks ago I noticed that it was sagging in the rear so I bought a set of Dakars that I have yet to install. However, just yesterday I got a notice from Capistrano Toyota about the Leaf Spring recall and that they'd also add an oil change and a car wash if I got the work done through them. I checked the Toyota recall website with my VIN and confirmed that my truck has the 'bad' springs based on the number of clips so I know that my truck is indeed eligible for the replacement TSB springs.

I saw on the online TSB notice that if you've previously spent money to repair the springs that "Reimbursement consideration instructions will be provided in the remedy owner letter"; the problem is that I don't have the original letter to know what paperwork I need to be reimbursed or where to send it (I was going to install them myself but if Toyota will pay for that labor I'll have someone else do it!) So here are my options....let me know what you'd do in my situation and if you can recommend any dealers that are better to deal with!

OPTION 1: Reimbursement. I have the receipt for the Dakars and all the hardware/bushings; what other paperwork do I need? I assume that I can get reimbursed for labor as well. Where do I go to start this ball rolling? Can someone post the info on the original E02 notice?

OPTION 2: Replacement TSB springs through dealer. Are there any local dealers that would install my Dakars while they were doing the TSB work and put the TSB springs in the bed? I highly doubt it but it would be nice!!! I know that I'm going to switch over to the Dakars ASAP since it seems like the TSB springs aren't all that hot.

I've never dealt with any of the San Diego Toyota dealers for work Are there any that are recommended (or awful) for work on modded trucks that MIGHT be willing to look the other way and install my Dakars instead of the TSBs? I know that there are definitely some Jeep dealers that are more friendly to trucks with aftermarket parts than others....

Well since apparently nobody here has any experience with the spring recall and local dealers I called around and found some things out for myself. I had Mossy Nissan in PB look at my truck to confirm that it qualified for the TSB springs; however when I told them I didn't WANT the new springs and would rather go the reimbursement route they kind of freaked out and insisted that they had to write on my invoice that I wanted to "decline" the recall... After some back and forth I was able to have them write that I did qualify and that I was "postponing" the work at that point.

Long story short: if you're going to try and get the reimbursement go through another channel to get the required documentation that the springs need to be replaced.

I hope this info helps someone in the future!
