Oh yeah, I remember that mag mount now. So it fell off and pulled the coax with it?! I figured the coax would've kept it at least in-tow.

The antenna just slipped off the base, the base was attached with coax but no actual antenna was left.

apparently I forgot or didn't check the tightness of the screw at the base of the antenna...probably wasn't tightened for over 30 years

no firestick is lame. I like the magnetic mount. I just bought a replacement antenna but the base is too big and doesn't fit in the mount. I gotta go to the store and look for a new whip.

What do you guys think I should check? I checked the truck stops up north but I don't know if there are like Flying J's or Love's down here??? Maybe 4 wheel parts or something. They can't rip me off too bad for just a whip ?!

    Ah that makes sense.

I'm a fan of my wilson 1000. Great reception. I think my tx is limited by my radio, 'cause it's not very good, but I don't think it's a problem with my antenna. The magnet is great, too. User Lusetaco has a dcsb 2nd gen and has or at least had a wilson 1000 and got great performance from it. He recommended it to me.

There's a truck stop (Love's or flying J or both) in Castaic before you head up the grapevine. You could check there!

Yeah I was eyeballing the Wilson 1000 but I already have a base and it works...all i need is an antenna whip. i Ordered a 62.5" replacement Wilson whip but it doesn't fit into the base on the mount. If I can't get anything to work at the truck stop or 4 wheel parts then I'll prob go the Wilson 1000 route.

I thought the base was kinda weak, which is why it fell over?

Either way, did a quick search and found this: http://www.findfuelstops.com/truck-stop-in-CA
Might be able to check some of those! A little far from Escondido (Miramar seems to be the closest) but that's about it for San Diego.

Good find Kevin! Yeah the base may be a little weak...how much does a wilson 1000 go for? I'm assuming the coax is the same from the one I have to the wilson 1000?

http://www.rightchannelradios.com/wilson-1000-magnet-cb-antenna-62.html <--Amazon has it for $10 cheaper, btw

The antenna comes with the coax already wired in, so you basically just route the coax to your radio, tune it, and go. Mine didn't need any adjustment after I put the antenna in about half way, so it was basically just a plug and play, super easy.
You might as well try a truck stop and look for a whip since you already have the magnet, but I wouldn't trust the magnet too much with a whip in the rocks. I've had my antenna really whipping around and I could hear the magnet lift off a little bit or pop out the roof a little. It sounded just like the antenna hit a tree hard but there wasn't anything for it to hit, unless it bent back and hit the roof of the camper shell.

It has more stuff done to it now.
So I might not be able to go any more. All though I'm sure I can't be officially notified via voice-mail 4 days after it was left only a day before I return from leave, but if that is so it sounds like it will cut into these dates. I will still try and make it if something changes though.
