So confusing - PreRunner vs TSS vs TRD Sport vs TRD Offroad vs SR5 vs Limited

Looks to me like someone took an SR5 and tried to make it a Sport. Do you have an outlet in your bed? If not, then that is for sure what happened. You don't have the yellow and blue bilstein TRD shocks and nothing is color matched like it's supposed to be. Unless in 2006 things were different. I don't go back that far.

 

Yea I don't think you have a sport. Looks like they added the scooped hood and bought a Sport sticker for the bed...

Not a sport.

There's one cruising around SoCal with poorly applied Sport decals and chrome bumpers.
There's also a white 5-lug cruising the San Fernando Valley with TRD Offroad stickers.

 

Black bumpers, no fog lights, maybe not even an SR5.
Don't all SR5 models come with chrome rear bumper and colormatched front and flares?
TRD Sport colormatches the rear bumper and grille.

Braik... do you have cruise control and the tow package?
Show us a picture of your oil filter mount.

 

True, probably is a base model. I have chrome bumper and color matched flares.

 

the dealer lied and ripped you off! mine is all colr matched with tow package and extra coolers...

THERE ARE 2 different TRD sport packages though, the pricedifference if i remember is about $3000, maybe you got the one with just the hood and some looks stuff?

LOL! back in 2005-2006 years they actually had prerunner REAL TRD SPORTS! anyone who bought after 2008... well your bad! no LSD locker, and not sure but do they have tow package and extra trans and oil coolers?

in any case get a pre-2008 prerunner trd sport or get an off-road...

Yellow and blue front billies, black rear.

(insert eye roll) color me surprised. That seems like a lot of trouble to go through.

The sticker is pretty darn convincing, and luckily, 6lug. Cruise control, yes. Two package, no. The truck is in the shop, but I'm about 80% sure I don't have an oil cooler.

From what I'm hearing it's an SR5. Now that I think about it I remember seeing an "SR5" on the dash. Didn't think much about it then, but now I'm suspicious. (DISREGARD THIS PART, IT WAS THE STUPID AIRBAG)

 

sr5 on the dash? when did they start doing that? seats would be a giveaway too. the sports came with different fabric seats.

 

Just kidding guys. It's a base model with a the hood scoop, and front suspension added at the dealership. I don't know how or why, but that's what happened. I guess I'll change my profile info now... Luckily I was planning on changing out the suspension completely anyway. Thanks for the help with the investigation!

 

I'm guessing he saw SRS (for the airbag) and the second "S" looked like a "5".

The TRD models are built on the SR5 platform.

But ditto... SR5 on the dash? That sounds like an add-on.
Does your steering wheel pad have a chrome "T" or is it just embossed into the cover? SR5 and TRD will be chrome.
Cruise control is a good sign, but it can be added to a base model for $100 worth of parts and 10 minutes.
Likewise intermittent wipers.

 

Mechanical LSD is not a locker , those only come on the TRD Offroad

 

The harness in the glove box is to connect an electric brake controller to the under dash connector up by the emergency brake. Check out the towing forum section for more details.

 

you really have to watch what you buy when looking on the used market. lots of hood swapping and sticker buying going on...

most people are clueless. oh it has 4x4 mud flaps... where is the 4x4 switch?... oh its full time 4x4? that is awesome...!

 

This thread has certainly been a tennis match. With now 11 years (2005 - 2015) of 2nd generation Tacomas the various packages/trim levels have been added, combined, discontinued ... I made the mistake one time calling a member out on TRD bed decals and SR5 tailgate emblem on his truck ... only to research and discovered it was original.

 

Ive been trying to do some research on whether or not my 2013 DCLB TRD Sport comes with the TRD catback exhaust from factory or will I need to purchase separately?

Sorry for the stupid question, any help is greatly appreciated.
