Had installed my led bars hooked to my SwitchPro but wasn't happy with the look of the install. So I took it to a automotive shop and they did make it look all pretty. For a while it seemed to work fine then one day my battery became corroded and wouldn't hold a charge, so Toyota replaced it.

Again, worked fine for a little and now it completely drains in less than 6 hours. So now I'm here at the shop waiting for them to get up and check for a constant hot wire.

Does this sound normal? Meaning can a hot wire really drain a battery that quick? I dropped the truck off at the dealership and returned 2 hours later, hopped in and...battery is dead haha. I know it's not the leds...I've had those on for a long time before and it never drained.

    I know..I ranted..just irritated.

wouldn't really surprise me all that much considering the factory batteries in these trucks aren't all that great.

It sounds to me like something isn't right with the install. The switch pro should be keyed off a power source so it shuts down when the truck does and will turn off your accessories (assuming thats how you have it configured).

Mines worked great since I installed it. Oddly enough my primary reason being to not accidentally leave something on and drain my battery lol.

I can understand factory batteries not being great but I tested it at O'Reillys, Napa, and dealership. All said the battery was good.
I guess we will find out about the install job. Just can't believe I did a better job on the install than these yahoos.

Can't you just disconnect the switch pro for a few days and see if the battery drains?

I did and it was fine so that's when I knew it was the install. I just don't know what they could've tapped in to, to cause this.

Trace the wiring through from your controller. Did they nick the wiring going through the firewall or something? It could be an issue with the controller itself as well. You are going to have to go through everything they touched to install this system.

    ah... makes sense.

there's settings in the switch pro (I do it through the phone app) that you can only turn on switches when the ignition is turned on (it's either ignition vs. battery).

Follow the blue, white and pink wires. if all the switches are off on the panel, then those are the only things that could be drawing power while the vehicle is off. but I think they only draw enough to see if there's current flowing... so that they can trigger other things, I'd doubt enough to drain a battery. I'd disconnect all your LEDs from the switchpro, see if battery drains, then it's probably something to do with the trigger wires. If not, then just sequentially attach the LEDs.

When you initially installed it.... you had no problems, right? Were all the LEDs hooked up after your install and before the shop's installation?

I do use the phone app. It is set to battery and ignition even before I let these guys re install and it all worked for over a year. Yes the LEDs were all hooked up before and after. I'm just going to let these guys go through it and post results back here. I mean NOTHING has been done to this truck (electrically) since I did the install

Well..quite the opposite..turns out my mirror defroster were on all the time, even when the truck was off.

Took it to the dealer and they blamed it on the roof rack leaking. "Ummm....what!?" I siliconed the shit out of the bolts and I'm pretty sure I would've seen my headliner getting wet. But no...they insisted the water got through the headliner, down the A pillar and on the floor (which was wet) but because I washed the truck before dropping it off.

So I take it home after stupidly paying $500, dropped the headliner and it is bone dry everywhere except the floor mat. I mean I globed that silicone on. So, General and service manager are gonna hear about this..

Not for Aftermarket parts. I had washed the truck that day so I think residue water made it wet? The wet spot is only the size of my hand. But it's been in snow and rain and no leaks ever. They said it travelled from the headrest area on the headliner, down the A pillar behind the dash and then the floor. I think I would've noticed that haha.

When I asked to see it...all they could show me was that floor area.

How’d you figure out it was the heated mirrors?

While the guys who were inspecting the job they did I asked to watch and was right there. Just so happened to put my hand kinda over the glass are and it was HOT. Truck off and everything, so that explained the drain.

So out of all this...is it even possible for water to go down the headliner and A pillar? The headliner is fabric...

I posted yesterday in 2nd gen. forum. I had water following the rubber roof trim, behind the rear window trim into the cab, along the headliner, behind the rear door trim, along the floor to the front passenger carpet. It is possible and likely. I could see it dripping during a rain.

Same thing happened to me, not the heated mirror part but water getting into the cab from my roof mounted lightbar brackets which use the same holes as a roof rack. I ran the screws out and coated them in silicone, havent had a problem since.

Yes, the headliner isnt straight fabric, the top of it is coated with some sort of resistant material, It would take a lot of water to soak through, i had water running down my A-pillar, dripping down the side of my glovebox and onto the floor.

Does anyone have a write up on a dash removal? They said they replaced the relay for the mirrors and cleaned everything, but after this, I now want to make sure since I have my headliner pulled and everything. Also to check if there is any water damage on the driver vent side like they said.
