It wasn't going to happen anyways. Here's another news flash, no V8s coming either.

I'd love to see some data backing up your claims that consumers are gobbling up diesels.

Lots of people lose their job every year. Most will go and find another job.

Imagine if we attempted to save the farm hands in the face of mechanized agriculture, or horses and labor teams threatened by cars and machinery, or low skill labor in the face of automation. Progress is progress, if coal isn't the best means to make power then it's not right to limp archaic methods along.

It seems Sergio Marchionne believes FCA will be able to talk or pay his way out of this with the new administration and new "business friendly" EPA. I guess if you can't make cars that meet the standards, just change the standards.

Coal isn't as viable as it once was. Should we subsidize employment of telephone board operators just because our Grandma did it? Coal is dying and isn't coming back anytime soon.

Lost coal jobs? Boo fucking hoo.

Want to know the chances of your career being automated in the near future? Here's formal work on this topic by the Oxford Martin School (2013). Page 57 for a table w/ results. Of the 702 professions in the list, 403 have a greater than 50% chance of soon being automated. 263 professions have a greater than 80% chance.

Find your own profession in that list, and think long and hard about how you'll put food on your table in 10 years' time.

For sure, but "small farms" are not enough to sustain this planet's population. Not by a long shot. If the mechanized agriculture were to disappear tomorrow, the vast majority of this planet would starve to death.
