Throttle response is delayed and unpredictable on the third gen.

Start at page 592 in the owner's manual. The setting is in the Entune audio system.

I hear ya man, shit gets old quick. I always wonder why the hell I don't have
and never had all the funky shifting/hunting for gears issues many complain about.

I have had my 2017 trd for a few weeks, I think the power is great for this truck and the tranny shifts smoothly, even when towing a small duel axle unity trailer. Does it pull like and perform like a 2011 5.0 F150 I had no and I did not expect it to. It's my 1st Taco so I can't comment on how previous gen's compare. Seems like there is just a few whiny people who call it a turdgen because they cannot handle change of automobile and know matter what you do there is know way of pleasing them ever.

Welcome to TW and congrats on the new truck.

Take all said with a very small grain of salt. Only person who matters, when it comes to your truck, is you!

Maybe the wife too, but mine won't drive my truck. She's afraid of making a scratch.

    CVT = Junk, agreed. IMHO

Being a past 2nd Gen owner, there is considerable difference in the way the vehicles behave. It's not something I complain about, but it does take a little re-learning how to drive the 3rd Gen in comparison to a 2nd Gen. Not hard to figure out (rev it more), but it does do more gear hunting than a 2nd Gen, mostly because of the 2 overdrive gears and the attempt to keep it reving lower for fuel economy. But again, give it more gas and it's fine. Would I trade my 3rd Gen back in for a 2nd Gen, hell no!

I have no doubt there are some folks who have trucks that are not operating as they should, and then there are some poor dealerships not handling things as I would think a good way. I also think there are some as you stated not pleased with the change, good news is there are still great 2nd gens out there.

I loved my 1st gen, 2nd gen and now so far my third- I posted as a comparison to what I had before. And I live in the mountains of WV and I think I know about power needed and how much a truck shifts. There is no issue with this trucks power and it does shift a hair more but it's not an issue my other truck shifted to every time it came to a incline. I loved my 2011 and I drove it for 6 years maintaince free- but I am really liking the smooth quite ride of this new truck and the upgrades. My dislikes are really not that big of a deal. And I'd buy it again next week.

Lots and lots of likes with my 3rd gen, only one very minor dislike which is the stock exhaust note (doesn't sound very good). It overpowers the mechanical engine sound, which I think sounds better anyway.

Other than that, I love this truck. Toyota did a great job with it.

Had my new ride maybe 3 weeks, coming from a 02 Dakota.

Like the nice smooth ride, and mpg. Like the rear dif lock and e brake. Like the standard transmission most of the time.

Dislike all the electronic gizmos and constant power draws. Dislike the lack of power when towing and especially when trying to go slow to negotiate obstacles.

Things I will do to correct problems now. OV tune, battery master switch, trailer brake controller.

Things I will do after warranty. Headers & new air intake. Flat bed and knack box for tools, oxy acetylene bottle holder, air compressor and welder.

Picked up a 2019 Tacoma with the 6 speed manual and am loving it. Coming from a Tundra Crewmax I was concerned I would have buyers remorse but two weeks in I think this is the best purchase I've made. Between its MPG so far, the overall size, how it drives, its great.

I have found two minor issues with it though:

    1. Only the front windows are auto up/down. Why not all windows and the rear slider? My father in law has a 2000 4Runner that has this "advanced" window technology, why isn't it standard nearly 20 years later? Surely, it can't cost that much. Which is still better than my Tundra which cost 8k more and only had auto down on driver window.

    2. I haven't had a manual transmission since high school but this has to be the loudest transmission I've ever heard. It doesn't seem like there's anything wrong gears go right in and the shifts are smooth but I just never remember hearing a cars transmission so prominently, anyone else with the 6 speed notice this?

Toyota will say this is normal. It’s their go to excuse.

This is my 4th Tacoma manual and it does not sound any different, if anything it's quieter. The Manuals do have steep 4.30 differential gear so that may be what you are hearing.
