17" SR5 AC 4WD, 1 month 1250 miles. Had the dealer check the tranny when I got it. One qt low. I added .5 gt to the rear diff myself. The wash board vibration between 10 and 30 mph, which I'll have addressed in a week or so. The transmission shifting has gotten much better. Cruise control still has a problem going back to 5th/6th. MPG is really good. Everything else is fine. I'm thinking about not worrying about the transmission shifting for a bit and see what happens. Happy so far.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Right on, Man. You topped everything up and I think you're right.... try to ignore the tranny and just let it do it's thing. Congrats on a great truck!

My trans is doing a lot better on shifting. Truck has 7800 miles. Still have the reverse to drive hesitation. The shifting seems to get a lot better over time.

Does the reverse/ drive thing only happen when its cold? On mine the RPM sits at 1000 in park until its gets warmer. Thats the only time I get the hesitation/ lurch.

My transmission seems to shift better after the truck warms up past a certain temperature. Kind of like a Toyota Echo I had.

I'm beginning to wonder if the dealerships are checking the fluid correctly.

Toyota is extremely good once a flaw is found, creating a kaizen to improve (and continuously improve) the process. When I worked at Raymond Corp building forklifts for Toyota I could literally have the inspectors "defect" something I passed on with a smudge or scratch in the powdercoat. Any defects were IMMEDIATELY counteracted with method to avoid the defect from happening again and usually enacted basically immediately.

An example would be if we didn't fill the forklifts hydraulic fluid reservoir in station 3 to the proper level, station 4 would have a check list to have both the employee and the department manager sign off on paperwork to confirm the fluid level was where it needed to be before it could proceed down the line to the next several stations. I know Toyota follows the Kaizen process as this is where it originated. So I have high doubts that these "defects" can exist long before being corrected.

2nd gens went 10 model years with many of their common "flaws" so it's not that I don't agree with you I just wonder if toyota is just flat out getting lazy

Man... the damn idiots... why can't the get the fluid right? They can figure out how to interpolate Atkinson and Otto cycles seemlessly, but they can check a fluid level..
