    Definitely!

Improved shift points, HP, low end torque & overall drive ability.

I'm not being an ass, I'm just wondering how this works/learn something about the 4.0. We have a 4runner so I'm curious. You are saying the fuel injectors shut off? Does the engine shut off?

The engine is spinning and everything is turned on and running, the injectors just don’t spray fuel. It become a giant compressor being pushed by the weight of the truck. The alternator and everything is turning so all systems continue to work.

    Fuel injectors shut off????

    Call me skeptical on that.

What restarts the engine? Magic...... No fuel = Dead engine

I suspect the injectors drop back to an idle level of fuel to keep the engine running.

Pretty much every engine has done this for 20+ years. The transmission is spinning the engine so it doesn't need fuel to stay "running". The fuel injectors turn back on at some point though to allow the engine to idle or when you hit the gas again.

It's called deceleration fuel cut off if you care to read more on it.

Engines need 3 things to run.

    Heat (spark)
    Air (oxygen)
    Fuel (gas, in most cases)

Remove any of the 3 will result in a dead engine.

In the past 20+ years, have you needed to restart the engine after you removed your foot from the throttle?

For it to create power it needs those three things. This is doing the opposite... it's being spun by the transmission to create drag and help with engine braking. Why would you want the engine making power going down a hill and using engine braking to slow you down instead of the actual brakes?

In this case the transmission is acting as the starter. It's spinning the engine and the computer adds the spark and fuel back once its needed to keep the engine from dying or when you call for power by the hitting the gas.

There's tons if info about it out there if you care to read it... or you can keep on keeping on.

I have read and lived during my career life.

The engine makes very little power at idle fuel levels.

The article you cited clearly states the fuel is restricted under certain conditions. Mainly to boost fuel economy, reduce emissions and to avoid damage to the cat.

An engine that is spinning is an engine that is “running.”

Well I learned something new. Thanks for that. It seems like a lot of articles about coasting fuel cutoff are from around 2008-2010 when people were trying to figure out the best ways to save fuel. Anyways, here's one of the better articles I've found.

    https://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/hybrid-electric/a5977/coasting-in-neutral-fuel-economy/

My last truck was a 5.7L Tundra which had great engine braking capabilities. Also, my 2.4L AWD Matrix had good engine braking. The 3.5L Tacoma does not. It almost feels like the truck is in neutral. Maybe it is engine displacement to vehicle weight and gear ratios. Our 4.0L 4runner doesn't have much more engine braking than the Tacoma. This is the highest compression ratio of any of my previous and current Toyotas, I just thought it was odd the lack of engine braking. I wonder if it has anythign to do with the simulated Atkinson cycle?

As I was reading about this, I was thinking of different situations which I observed "throttle blips" and the way the drivetrain loads and unloads while coasting. I was also thinking back to winter, where my buddy and I carpool from for work is basically a 4 mile coast down a gradual grade right after leaving the parking lot. If the truck isn't warm when I leave the lot it'll say about 20-22mpg at the end of coasting and the engine still isn't warm, but the engine is idling to warm up. In the summer when everything heats up quick it'll say 33-39mpg at the end of the coasting. Disclaimer** I don't hope in a cold truck and head out to a 50mph road, I hit the remote start for 10 minutes while in the warm car. :D

Well here I am again, getting back to original purpose of thread.

We returned yesterday from a 2 night camping trip in our trailer, which we’ve named Rocky due to being a Rockwood. Not very thoughtful huh, but we like it.

What is normally about a 2 hour drive took about 2 1/2 hours towing Rocky up into the Sacramento Mountains, just above 7000 feet. We stayed in Riverside RV Park and were lucky to get a great spot along the Rio Ruidoso (not much more than a creek right now, with the drought). We had a private deck overlooking the river with horses and wild turkeys across the river. Everything went very well and we had a great time. The Taco didn’t like some of the longer, steeper climbs, but still handled it well. Overall, I averaged just over 11 mph while keeping the speed at 65 and below. Around 62 mostly.

We’ve got another trip planned next month, again to Ruidoso, but to a different park. We are looking forward to it and are already talking of planning more trips soon.

I’m including some photos from our trip. If they turn out upside down again, I’m sorry. I just can’t figure out how to prevent that. Sometimes they come out right so here goes.......

Yes, it was tight but still comfortable. The next park we’ve booked is more spread out but not on water. Can’t have everything all the time.

Nice! 11 mpg isn't terrible, I'd of guessed less. Yeah, that spot is tight, I'd scratch that park off my list of all of the spots are that close.

Hey brother, I just wanted to tell you I actually work at Forest River. We make the No Boundaries (NoBo) Line and the RPOD. You are brave for buying a travel trailer from them, let me tell you. Have you had any issues with it?
