OK, I've read enough. Wouldn't the first indication that there's a problem be when they were filing your window glass? Now, I know it's hard to tell inside a shop but I personally would've noticed after they did the first window that it was too dark, but that's just me.

I don't know why I find this thread so funny but I do.

Anyhow, definitely dispute it with your credit company immediately because you only have 60 days. After that, you're SOL.

Yeah they're trying to be asses about it. If you were specific with your request, which was either a specified percent of tint or the promise to match, you have every right to have the charge revoked. They should be fixing their error on their dime. Now if you said just tint it and this is what you got, that's another story. Just saying that having a chargeback requires a certain amount of validity. Did you sign a charge slip or invoice? Did you refuse to sign based on incorrectly installed tint? Do you have a copy of what you requested? Just trying to help ya out man!

Well I told them to begin with I want it matched and to see samples and determine what matches best... he said 20% will match for sure he does it all the time. I said ok put it in the bay and get to work. I am hanging out watching and it seems like it might match from the distance but questioning it. When they finished and brought the truck out into the sun I laughed... it was way to dark. I said there is no way that is 20% its darker than the back! not matching or even close! Argued for like an hour that I don't want it. Noticed I wasn't getting anywhere and they werent going to help out I just decided to charge it to my AMEX since I know they have great coverage. (felt forced to pay) so I signed the receipt took my papers and bounced... called Amex and found out I have to wait until it hits their records to charge a dispute. So I will be calling in a day or two to refuse payment. I will even let them know that I felt threatened to pay in order to leave the shop. I think I have a legit enough problem that I can get my $ back.

Yeah, sounds like you have everything covered, I'd file a complaint too! I hate people like that, reminds me of when I picked up my Tacoma I assumed I would be getting the tinted headlights (mine indeed did not come with tinted headlights) and I had my truck on the lot next to the tinted one, IN BROAD DAYLIGHT and the HEAD TRUCK GUY was telling me that they were both the same, and I said, seriously, you mr. head truck guy, can't tell the difference between these two OBVIOUSLY different headlights??? I mean WTF is people's problem, this is their business, this tint guy can't see in plain light that he messed up??? Just plain stupid, how they stay in business is beyond me...

    +1

Also, get it measured... every tint shop should have a visible light meter and they can measure the back window and the front and verify the different. Your best bet is to get your money back... and go to another shop.

How much is the tint stuff cost? Offer them that much. I say $20 top. So this guy willing to lose a customer, potentially one that can give him more business in the future not even to mention recommendations and referrals, for $40? Doesn't make sense at all?

Is that dark even legal in California? It should be the reverse front tint to back and back tint to front.

yeah i wouldn't do that- because then they'll probably take a shit in your door panel while they have it open.
why would you want an angry man with tools in your truck?

Yea its def 100% not a legal tint % for Cali and plus I am just going to deal with the credit card company to reverse charges and get it done elsewhere.

Get one of those magnetic signs that says - "This tint shop sux".

Stick it on the side of your truck....

Park in front of their shop for a few weeks.

    slimcubby,

Thought I'd drop some photos of my tint done today, figured it may help for reference. It was done using Solargard. The guy at the shop said the rear was about 28% so I went with 15% up front and 28% over the factory rear. When it was done he measured it with his meter and it showed 10% for the fronts and 8% for the rears, I'm very happy with my tint!!!

Well, had my fronts tinted today........The title of the OP says it all for me! Does anyone know for sure what the factory tint is? The shop that did mine said the 20% would match fine. I believe he said he uses 3M too. It doesn't match. Looks like day in back and night up front. Thats bad considering there is more light that comes in through the front due to the windshield.

i'd say to be safe, 30% upfront would match pretty damn close, or if not, i'd be slightly lighter than the back

Thanks......rather than fight, I believe I'll just go in and tell them they were very wrong,(hopefully in front of other customers) and tell them to schedule me a new time to come in and redo it. If they want to make it right then it will be up to them. I may go by the police station first and see if they can check the tint % front and back. Maybe have some evidence to take with me?!?!

a good tint shop should have a neter to test the stock tint to see exactly where it is

This shop does not have one, I did ask before they did the work. They are an all around truck parts, Rhino lining and mod shop. Obviously they are not thorough with their tint though. The first words were, well no one else has ever complained. Soooooooooooo....your point about the tint not matching isssssssss?????????????????????

Got the 15% took off the front and the 30% put on. They did not charge me a dime, therefore I can say they did very good buisness.

Thanks for the advice...you are correct on the 30%, looks great.

None of the tint shops in town have a meter, not even the police station. I believe in this area, darkness isn't an issue. The tint shop also learned through this experience.
