So i got the CEL on my truck, which i just bought so that sucks, but oh well its always a gamble. so it came up as 420 catalytic converter.

I believe that its just the first one and not the second, but when i called a shop they said they had to replace both due to "its against the law to only replace one" which i called BS on and he said thats all he can do. and they want $500 for it.

I'm thinking of buying a direct bolt on from Advance Auto or somewhere like that and just doing it myself.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! im kinda broke right now and $500 would fully break me.

FYI- if you pull them out, they are going to be black. That's normal.

Nice thing was I got the truck for $4000
I'd just let the CEL stay on until inspection time...then do something about it. Also, stay away from the dealership with this becuase of the price...aftermarket all the way

I would do that, but i think its causing a loss in power and a loss in mpg... so that sucks.

I think i may just order the cat and do it myself. Im fairly sure its the one going up in the engine area. So i'll do that one first and see how it goes.
