Yeah, I just returned from a 5,500 mile round trip from Maryland to Northern Saskatchewan and back, I hit the 300K mark somewhere in Minnesota.

This truck has been better to me than I have been better to it. I have only replaced the power steering pump and two coil packs under the hood, otherwise all original.

Rust? oh hell yes, last year I had half the passenger side frame replaced with AutoRust kit components by a local "craftsman" for a very reasonable fee. I am assuming the driver's side will eventually succumb to the same effect.

As I read other topic/posts about prevention, and i am due for a transmission flush now, does anyone have any profound prevention to get me to 400,000 miles on this "everyday reliable Tacoma"? Drive it until the wheels fall off? Drive it til the frame calls it quits? Sell it now to the next fool who will pay for a reputation ? I haven't had a car payment for 14yrs, why start now?

Nothing. Drive it till something breaks. I4 is a timing chain, only thing that goes bad on those are the Nylon chain guides.

The 3RZ and 2RZ regularly make it past 300,000-400,000 miles. I’ve seen my fair share of high mileage trucks on Copart and around the dozens of junkyards I travel to when I used to part out trucks.

I second what Bartmaster says. However I would still give it a thorough once-over and see if anything needed attention. Wouldn't hurt to change diff fluid and transfer case fluid. Maybe flush tranny if you want...idk. Other than that, just regular maintenance and drive it!

Drive the heck out of that sun-of-a-gun, but seriously just stay on top of regular maintenance and keep everything lubed up and greased and you should be good to go.

Is it your first ever transmission flush? That seems to be the norm here with incredibly high mileage Tacoma’s lol. Bye bye clutch material

Hard to give a guy advice who has twice the mileage on his 2.7 as mine, but common wisdom on TW 1st gen section (and Toyota service interval) says you should have checked your valve clearances at least twice by now. There's more than one person on here who says they had a head crack due to tight exhaust valves. But then there are the stories like your's, so

Service recommendation wise, I believe so. But the people on here who have said they cracked heads were on 2.7. I know because it always got my attention, since I have one that I don't know the maintenance history on. I just checked mine about 500 miles ago and had one exhaust that was out of spec on the tight side. Haven't adjusted it yet because I didn't have the shim and needed to get valve cover back on it that day.

had a Nissan frontier with over 350k before i gave it to my ole business partners son, reg maintenance was all i did to that truck. dont buy brand names... i buy based on motor and drivetrain. owned, datsun, toyota and hondas (vtec is the best I4) all with 4 bangers. ive personal known people getting over 500k on these I4's. its about bragg'n rights... the japanese I4 is one of the most reliable motors in history. go ahead, take it to 400k... do you really wont another car payment?
