By that logic why even have dual cases at all, or hell even lockers, just pick better lines....

I think this is the important distinction, if you ever plan on taking your truck into more extreme lines, may as well slap that 4.7 in when you have it all apart. The control the stupid double low gives you on the hard obstacles is invaluable, and trying to feather a clutch, you can more easily break stuff, and or stall it and roll on lines that would bring the absolute suck.

Because thats a simple question turning it something else.

I was asking for the sake of the discussion final gear ratio, and the 4.7s / dual 2.x discussion, with my point being that I personally don't need gears that deep.

Jake does. Others do. It's application specific and 4.7s aren't the right answer for all.

I also use my lockers all the time. And I suck at picking lines. That's why I need all the things. What I lack in skill my truck makes up for capability.

I can accept it as a fair question :D. For riding regular difficult trails a standard reduction dual case could be fine for sure. Usage does come into play and if you're doing technical trails without huge obstacles having 4.7 might not benefit...

Have you driven a 1st gen? I drove a 2nd gen and with 37s and 4.88s it had quite a bit more torque than my 3.4 with 5.29s on 35s...

That said I'd prefer to go 4:1 atlas before going to a dual case setup on my Tacoma for strength and reliability reasons among others.

I haven't driven a first gen, so I don't have that experience for comparison.

    Holy shit...$3300 dollars?!

They were $2k new a few years ago.

Also available for a limited "For a limited time only" and looks like it's mostly inchworm parts so I doubt they are coming back into production permanently.

Also no option for the 2nd gen manual trans, so this is still not an option for the OP. Must have exhausted their supply of inchworm adapters.

Edit: nevermind. This could work for the OP. forgot he is a 1st gen

    Yep, limited production.

I bought my tacobox when they were first anodized red with the mc31 and mc09. Fully assembled for $1900 + 10% off sales event.

Sadly, even TG is going for $2800. But $3300 is steep, at least it's clockable. INFLATION IS REAL

Rather piece it together, still cheaper.

Craziness. The price of that atlas doesn't sound so ridiculous anymore.

Just send it without a crawl box. Rather spend that money on a SA setup :anonymous:

Can anyone tell me if there is a difference between the the automatic and manual transmission outputs? I found an old inchworm dual case setup but it was bought for an automatic 4runner and I want to run it in my manual Tacoma. If the trans outputs are the same I think it should bolt in.

I believe on the 1st gens they are the same 23 spline output, i assume male like 2nd autos, but i defer to the 1st gen guys for confirmation.

2nd gen is different between manual and auto. 2nd gen manual is a larger 22 spline female output on the trans.

Yea, they're both behind a 5vz so I think they should be the same. I just noticed on the Marlin page that they do list individual applications between the 4runner/Taco and auto/manual though?

Also, yes, Im talking about a 3rd gen 4runner and my 1st gen Taco fyi.

5VZ auto or manual will both be 23s.
