So I was just given $878 by the state. I love AK.

Ben I don't want to preach but for your daughters sake save her checks up for a college fund.

Alaska is amazing for some and horrible for others. I've met quite a Few girls that were going crazy from the long and brutal winters and they were lucky enough that their parents saved their oil checks and put it into a bank account. That money can then serve as an escape... It gives them a good reason to do good in school and not go down a path of drugs and alcohol. If they love Alaska they can just go to Anchorage for school, but if it becoming a place they don't want to live they can used that saved up cash to go to school somewhere a little warmer and with more people.

I hear ya man. My pops raised us to pay our own way through school cause it'd mean more to us and we wouldn't skip class if it was on our own dime. There's wisdom on both sides. We'll see. I can guarantee that hers won't be wasted away though. She's far too cute for that. My dad would always put ours into providing for the family, and I don't see a whole lot wrong with that mentality.

So this year, I'm putting 311 into that jacket, and hopefully the rest into savings for a house. WE'll see how much TW gets of my money though. Heaven forbid there's a group buy in the next couple weeks.

I remember well getting the PFD check every year when I lived up there. Nice bonus. Smart thinking too on someone's part. Keeps the scumbag politicians from being able to steal that money to re-direct to cover up their shoddy/shady 'leadership' shenanigans. Doesn't keep them from trying though.

I think Nevada should be doing the exact same thing with their mineral resources. Fourth largest gold producer in the world. Also non-renewable just like AK's oil. Instead, the overlords are taking kickbacks to let foreign mining companies take it away and the citizens of the state see dick in return. Once it's gone--it's gone. Don't know what sort of deal No. Dakota has with the Bakken oil field, but they should do the same too.

Anyhoo, I say toss in a couple extra bucks and get one of these. WAY better than holding it in ever-inflating FRN's in a bank somewhere. You'd be better off taking it down to the G.A. Bush Co. and having yourself one of those real good times rather than keeping it in virtually worthless dollars nowadays.

Ben, do you guys only have Alaska State Troopers, or does Anchorage have its own local PD?

We have our own pd, every city does. When you get the small bush towns it's mostly state troopers. Thinking of making a move there buddy?

If I lived in CA (I do), I'd buy a new set of tires for the truck. I'm tired of the crappy Nexens that it came with.

If I lived in AK, I'd spend it on firewood, heating oil, or whatever the hell you guys use to keep warm all winter! Isn't that why AK residents get an extra tax credit?

$878 will get you a couple of blubber-chomping 'skimo hookers to keep you warm all winter.

Yup. Bit of a down year. A few years back we got a pretty hefty check. A big PFD and some other energy credit or something like that. I think it was $2500-3000 but not positive.
