I can't remember exactly. I want to say that the Synergy Drive system, which included the battery pack, was warranted for 8 years/100k miles when new

When her lease was up on the Prius she bought a Corolla LE that she could payoff quickly. But she misses her Prius. Said she'll give the 'Rolla to our youngest daughter in the future and get another Prius.

I don’t know where the concern comes from and am not sure why this would be an issue. The battery chemistry and tech has improved quite a lot since the early aughts versions that needed a replacement at 100k — back then there came to be a “replacement battery at 100k” built into the purchase price of Honda Civic hybrids and Priuses, but it ain’t 2003 anymore and the batteries today are designed to be good for the “life of the vehicle.”

Seriously, all the cars you list will be fine, but Priuses last forever and are stellar returns on investment. Buy a lowest-trim Prius Prime (plug-in) for something in the mid-20s with rebates and all; I’ve got 95mpg over the 35,000 miles I’ve racked up thus far on my 2017, and it’s good for the air and the planet.

My mom’s 2004 finally needed a new battery last year, and it was actually the *small* auxiliary battery, which lasted a ridiculously long 14 years! Yeah, you might need to buy a new traction battery down the line if you want to run it hard for 20 years, but you’ll save on brake pads due to regen braking, engine repairs because those cvts are bomber, etc.

    Don't know.

But I can tell you that battery pack failure is pretty rare. The Internet can make it seem bigger than what it is. And shade-tree mechanics who haven't evolved with automotive technology over the years love to scare people with the "dreaded battery pack failure", because they don't have the knowledge or skill to wrench on them. Most of the fear is unfounded.

I wouldn't have an issue buying one, but any additional warranty just provides peace of mind. I plan on getting a Rav 4 hybrid when my wife's corolla needs replacing.

First off, I don’t like the Prius. But I have to respect what Toyota built. Have some friends with a 2006 Prius, and they have 205,000+ miles on it. It runs like a champ, even with the miles and the years. When batteries went out, dealer (after 2 visits) did go to bat for them with corporate. I think they paid 50% and friends paid the other 50.

Al Gore's kid got popped doin 100+ in one as I recall

That expensive Mercedes AMG that's all electric can do AWD burnouts with the traction control off due to the crazy torque in the hub motors

I had to go to LA from SF a week or so ago up and back in one day around 800 miles so I took the Prius. 80 or 90 the whole way and only around $60 bucks in gas. Can’t beat that.

gotta choose your poison, put a heap of miles on the truck or, get a Prius yeah? Can't really beat the mileage, and I don't think anyone has a good idea of how long the batteries last until they shit the bed for good. Toyota engineers know, but they aren't sharing that info with us.

Totally, don’t forget the Prinsu with the Maxxtraxx, the 33s and cut fenders, that thing where you bake your taillights in the oven and then reassemble them with some other type of LEDs, the American flag stickers, the TRD badges....

I almost want to do all that to my Prius and then religiously park it next to all the unblemished trail rigs in my parking lot.
