No point in having gobs of torque if it can't be utilized in a timely fashion.

Not really. If I wanted a diesel I'd go full size. I like my gas engine. Fast, quick to react to the pedal, cheap on maintenance, real heat in the winter.

Although if I had a Diesel I'd never shut it off from November till April.

If I went diesel I'd go old school. I'd want one that all you need is a 12V connection to the engine to run it.

    Good god!

    479 ft·lb @ 1600-2600 rpm

That thing Idles with more torque than our 4.0!

Except for towing, stump pulling, hauling, 4x4 crawling, and every other truck activity where low-speed/high force is the key combination. Something with the numbers mentioned above would have enough HP for interstate driving and towing, and enough low end grunt to get shit moving with alacrity.

Sure, you can achieve it with gearing, but then mileage goes to hell if you do need to get it on the interstate for some reason.

Turbo-diesel engines have no problem whatsoever functioning as workhorses and DD motors in the same bay. If it were anyone but Toyota, I'd say the diesel would last longer than the petrol engine as well...but we are talking about ToyMoCo here. The US air quality laws being goofy as hell, we will probably never see turbo-diesel trucks here that aren't imported...

A gas engine can go just as long as a diesel with proper maintenance.
Low gearing (Aka 4Lo) can achieve just as much (If not more) torque than a diesel could ever put down.

I've driven diesels (Hell, our ambulances are all Diesel) and they work just great. I just wouldn't thank you for one in my tacoma. As previously stated, if I went diesel, I'd go full size. No pissing around with a small 3.0L diesel.

Oh, and never put miracle whip in your coffee as a last ditch substitute for milk or cream. It fucking sucks and it looks like someone jizzed in your coffee after it melts in 20 seconds.
