So I've been thinking.... Tacoma with a V8 option.

I'd like to see an articulated (8-6-4) V8 in a Tacoma. Chevy has one and it works VERY well. Plus, the dual harmonics of a V8 would fit the look of the Tacoma SO well:drool:

I'd like to see a V8 in a Tacoma that is capable of running on 4 cylinders to save fuel. Or perhaps a limited edition "hot rod" Tacoma with the 5.7L.

It would be nice if Toyota offered a forced induction V6 straight from the factory and advertised for it more than just the dealer installed TRD supercharger. A lot of automobile manufactures are going the F.I. route instead of adding more displacement nowadays because of gas costs. Borg Warner's stock is going to sky rocket over the next few years. I'll eventually boost my Tacoma, just haven't decided which route to go yet.

I'm hoping a W-12 will be available by the time I'm ready for a new truck.

I totally feel your hunger for a Tacoma V8-the guy to talk to is that "350 tacozilla" he runs a 350 V8 in a lighter 1st-gen! The coolest V8 application to a light vehicle was a Chevy 427 in my cousin's Willy's Jeep. That thing would smoke all 4!!

Hell a V8 in a tacoma could yield decent mileage provided you dont leadfoot it. Chris should weigh in on this-but I figure a torquey V8 would take little throttle to get up to speed-theory being it would drink about the same amount of gas your V6 would?

Mmmmm.......its not quite that simple. Given the same vehicle and the same acceleration, if it takes 50 h.p. to accelerate a Tacoma with a V6 to, say, 50 mph. It will take the same 50 h.p. from a V8 to accelerate it to the same speed at the same time. Also, the 4.0 V6 is an aluminum motor. The V8 is much heavier. If you have a 4.0 V6 and a 4.7 V8, the V8 is going to burn more full. It has more displacement, and if run at the 14.7-1 ideal AFR, it will still burn more fuel as it has .7 Liter more volume of air. It may have a lower torque range, wich could help mpg, but it wont ever be better than the v6.

So do you believe a factory V8 option in the Toyota Tacoma would/would not be a good idea????
