I had a 2003 Frontier, 4 cyl, manual that never gave me problems. Drove it 215,000 miles with original clutch. Still would of had it if some idiot wouldn't of rear ended me.

I'm pretty sure it is lol. I test drove one in 2008 when I was also looking at Tacomas. Interior felt cheap in 2008 and it doesn't look like it's changed much since then. After I drove the 2008 Tacoma, I never even considered the Nissan anymore. Power delivery was decent, but that was the only thing I liked about it. Never thought it was a bad truck, just the Tacoma was better, then and now. To each their own, I guess.

Does it really? Never looked at the specs between the two, but felt like the Nissan was cramped. I've ridden in the back seat of both and, while neither were super comfortable, the Tacoma still seemed to have more room. The thing that really got me was the rear doors. The opening was so small I beat my knees to death getting in and out. Of course, these are midsize trucks, so they're not going to be overly spacious.

Same with mine, was so tight at 500 miles. At 1500 miles even the transmission shifted closer to my tundra, and the truck ran much happier. Got a bit over 1900 on it now, trucks runs great, i can finally pass a set of gas pumps without stopping to fill.

I don't know what the dimensions are or what the back seats are like. The front seats felt like there was more room between the driver and passenger seat. Seemed like there was more head room as well, and the seating position felt higher to me.

I can't argue that....though I've had no real issues with it.

I knew when I bought my rig in '15 I was buying a vehicle design that was basically 10 years by then. But that's ok. She's been paid off for some time, looks and runs just fine. At 73K I'd like to think she's got plenty of life left in her. Plus I have 3 more years and 50K miles left on my Platinum warranty.

So figuring all that in....I'll stick with my old tech for the foreseeable future.....which will ancient tech by the time I part ways with her.

I'm with you, don't have any specific issues, but the tech in my grandkids toys is better. My '17 is paid off, I'm happy with it, so I'm at no real loss.

True....but frankly, it doesn't look too bad for a design that was launched in '04 and probably penned a couple of years before that.

And, if I'm being completely honest....it's really no more dated than my rig's interior.

I do feel like the seating position is higher. I'm probably in the minority in that I actually find the Tacoma seating position to be pretty comfortable lol.

Headroom is definitely lacking on the 3rd gens with the sunroof. Headroom is okay with the non-sunroof models, but mine has a sunroof and there's not a lot space to spare between the top of my head and the headliner. I only notice at certain times and only if I'm wearing a hat.

I still think the 2nd gen interior is much better than the Frontier. I'll always have soft spot for the 2nd gen interior and, personally, I think it has aged pretty well.

My brother was looking around for a mid-size for his young family, him being a Nissan guy he was shopping the Frontier and Tacomas.
He ended up with a 2006 Frontier with super low miles for a lower price than the worst clapped out 2nd gen Tacomas..

It's a good looking truck, drives nice, will do everything they need.. It's not a Tacoma though.

I'm a big burly guy and I didn't fit in the 2018 Frontier I test drove before I decided on a Taco. It was the least spacious of the 4 small trucks I test drove (Ranger didn't exist at the time). My beer belly was touching the steering wheel even with the seat all the way back, and the wheel all the way forward. lol

That sounds about right, I believe the Frontier is the smallest mid-sized truck available.

Stock 285s?? That would have been huge back then.

Yeah, I never get these complaints either.

Just 5.29 regear it for the $1700 group buy price, cut 2 in of foam out of the front seat and you got everything with the third gen.

I've had an auto Frontier and a 6 speed Xterra. The Tacoma is a better truck. I had issues with the Frontier. The tranny was a lingering problem. I liked the Xterra a lot more, but it also had issues. Engine issues, rear axle seals (pretty much all of them), and the alternator that they have at the bottom of the engine and got submerged and full of mud a few times. The Nissans did have a better power band with the 4.0L.

Came with 265/75s. I had an 05 too. 285s required the "melt mod" to fit. Was fun and I took that thing all over. Liked the 6 speed and also never had clutch issues.
