Up here in Canada with the conversion of liters to gallons, we're closer to $4.85/gal. I can't imagine the cost of fuel over the years at that price.

Yeah cause there is no way to keep track of mileage after your odometer hits 999,999... Keep trollin

Do mechanical odometers roll over back to 000,000 if you go past 999,999? I want to say they used to back in the day, but I am not sure.

Yes they do and the ecm will keep tracking the hours on the engine. Nit sure on the tacoma but on many newer odometers they will keep regestering.

They don’t roll back and federal law prevents you from tampering with them.

I had a 96 Corolla back in high school and college. When I gave it to my cousin it had close to 400K on it, He kept driving it past 500K before I lost track of it. I believe that car is still running around somewhere lol When I owned it (pre 400K) the only thing that had been replaced on it were typical things... tires, brakes, clutch, filters and fluids for the most part... nothing major.

It is common to see 200k and 300k miles on Tacomas. 400k+ is getting into rare territory and 500k+ is exceptional.
In general, most (not all) high mileage vehicles are driven a great deal during their younger years, so they can rack up big numbers before rust, aging components, and other major issues get a chance to creep in.

He didn't say roll back, he said "roll over back to 0." I am confident most of us understood this to mean rolling over directly from 999,999 to 000,000. NOT rolling back. I can't put my finger on it, but there is something wrong with your past few posts.

Um yeah, I wasn't talking about rolling back... I was talking about rolling from 999,999 to 000,000 as a progression.

He responded exactly as I had imagined he would...

That's a hell of a lot of miles.
Drive at 65 mph for 4 hours a day and 300 days a year, then 725,000 miles will take over 9 years to accumulate. What kind of a life is that?

The million mile Tundra was an 07. It stopped at 999,999. No roll over or progression.

You get a guy who makes an account for a first odd post about an 08 Carolla having very precise mileage you could only tell from a computer read.

    Fishy to me.

This is the OP for this....

Where does he talk about an "08 Carolla having very precise mileage"!? Are you even reading the OP? I have been in a few threads where your posts are just really trollish, I find that more fishy than anything... :boink:

I'm saying wouldn't the computer internally keep tracking the miles? Why would it have a digit limit other than a couple interger limit?

The ecm only records hours. But we have a nifty math thing to figure miles.
