My truck has the 6mt. Had to order it that way. Wife drives the truck more then I do. Id rather drink turpentine and piss on a brush fire then drive an automatic.

I drove 2 door stick shifts my whole life until my Tacoma. I miss it so much. Once the Tacoma is paid off I will be getting a WRX STI.

Agreed. Learned to drive in early 70's. My choices were a manual, a manual or a manual. Autos are generally so good now, I'm no longer interested in rowing the boat unless towing.

The manual transmission IMHO has switched from being the base model standard equipment to a special option for particular vehicles. Automatics used to be an optional extra (at times a quite expensive one) thus considered more of a "luxury" than something that is ultimately boring. But now, with the focus of the driving experience being more focused on being a passenger and app connectivity the automatic will eventually be the only option.

    I fear that day.

34 years old, only owned manual transmission vehicles since I was 19. Will always have at least one for as long as I'm able to.

Automatics may have come a long way and surpassed manuals in virtually every sense regarding speed, efficiency, maybe even reliability, etc....but they will never be as enjoyable to drive IMO.

Three on the tree, four on the floor, five speed, six speed, I can drive them all and so can my wife, son, and daughter. Haven't got to the granddaughter yet, but I will.

    Yeah, I know how.

Every single vehicle I owned since 1971 was manual, until now. Most of them were work trucks.
I mean my own primary, personal vehicles.

I'm glad my (new-to-me) Tacoma is AT, and so is my wife.
I tried to teach her manual shortly after we got married.
One afternoon was enough for both of us. :p
We agreed to drop that idea for the sake of our marriage.
    I'm being serious.

We always had her car (AT), my truck (MT), and a beater car with AT.
So it didn't present a problem that she couldn't drive the truck.

When I was searching for my Tacoma, she suggested maybe it should be auto.
Just in case she had to drive it. She didn't insist.
    But I readily agreed.
I've pared down to 2 vehicles now, her Highlander and my Tacoma. (Eh, plus my motorcycle).
I'm retired and a MT seems too much like work any more.

The AT on my 2nd gen Tacoma is quite acceptable.
Feels almost luxurious, you know? Not having to row the gears any more.

My truck is actually the only Automatic I've had in a personal vehicle. And because it's been my daily, I kinda love it. That being said, I'm super torn on what to do when I go to get a 2020. Also, it kinda sucks now that the auto gets better MPG because it makes the decision even harder. I don't know what to do. Pros and Cons on both sides, specifically for the 3rd gen Tacoma.

But yes, I can drive stick. Can even do some of that fancy pants heel-toe shifting business as well thanks to a lot of racing sim games before I was old enough to drive and now for real out on the race track. I'm a delivery driver for a Peterbilt dealership, and my piece of shit Ram ProMaster van broke (every one we have is a sack of faulty metal shit) so I had to drive this old company F-150 they had and turns out it was stick. They were like.. "Oh yea.. do you know how to drive stick?" Pfffft... :transformer: So, I had to drive it about 300-400 miles a day for about two weeks. After the first day, I was like "Heeeellll no.. The Tacoma is gonna be auto. Too old for this crap all day" but then after a couple days it was like it was nothing. And then I started thinking maybe a 6MT Tacoma wouldn't be so bad..

I’m 60. This ‘17 Tacoma is the first vehicle I’ve owned with an automatic transmission. If not for a catastrophic accident forcing a total replacement of my (L) knee, I’d be driving a stick today. Bought it before my leg was strong enough to push in the clutch.

Raised both kids driving a stick...and they still do at 31 and 29.

I've only lived here since I was 19 and I still wouldn't trade it for an auto, I never really found it to be all that annoying (at least not more annoying than traffic already is). Only time I notice it is in my truck and in stop/go mountain traffic, like going up to Big Bear. That sucks, I will admit...especially because my clutch is too light and doesn't pull my truck along at all so under those conditions it's a constant throttle feathering battle. But the beauty of 4wd is that if I can anticipate that traffic, I'll just take the fire roads up instead.
