Old man has a 02 Taco with MT, and I'll take it for a spin every now and then. Learned how to drive MT on a 1990 Toyota Pickup, and it was great! Highly considered getting my 2018 Taco in MT, however, LA traffic is annoying. If I lived somewhere with open roads I'd get MT 100%.

My Tacoma is an auto, and I like them for daily driving. I do drive this manual a fair bit.

I can't drive an automatic. Always stomping on a pedal and reaching for a shifter that's not there

I work in Pasadena lol, luckily I moved to Monrovia though last year so my commute is only about 10 minutes taking city streets. The west side....ugh that would suck. I think I can count on one hand the number of times I've got past the 405 in the last 3 years.

31 millenial here, First vehicle was an 88' Cherokee on 33's manual, fun when I was 16 but those days have passed.

These days there aren't many vehicles I would personally choose stick in. Miata is a car that I would only have in manual since it's such a connected driver experience that an auto can't manage. I don't need that connection on my DD pick em up.

I did that in my mom's BMW once while using it in "manual mode" (no clutch, just push the shifter up and down). Stomped on the brake going though an intersection thinking I had a clutch for a second...haven't made that mistake since.

You are lucky! Unfortunately, I work at a lot of the movie studios and they are all west side. There is absolutely no fuckin way I would ever move there. So I deal with the commute. 626 4 lyf.

My dad taught me how to drive, at age 13, in his 1965 Ford 1 ton pick up, out in the Mojave desert so I couldn't hurt anything but tumbleweeds and greasewoods :D

I have owned a couple automatics, but I dislike everything about them. I want to always be 100% in control of every aspect of my vehicle that I can be in control of. I don't want the transmission upshifting when going downhill when I want it to stay locked in a particular gear, and I want it to downshift when going uphill when I want it to downshift.

I was a Unix server Sys Admin for 18 years, which might help explain my distaste for slushboxes to any fellow IT folks here :fistbump:

hahahaha. I am glad to know I am not the only one. It took me like a solid 6 months after I got my truck to stop doing this.

Nice, yeah I used to be a freelance photographer (now work in-house) but I remember having to commute all over LA all too well. I had a manual trans Scion back then that was a lot easier to sit in traffic with than my truck is.

My truck is an auto, but I can drive a stick and have owned both. Manual vs. auto isn't a selling point in a truck for me. Driving a manual is more fun, but it's also a pain in the ass in a lot of situations (stop and go traffic, boat launches, parallel parking on hills, etc.) so it's a wash for me. If I found the exact pickup I wanted, the transmission wouldn't be a factor at all in my decision to buy it. I would never buy an automatic sports car though.

    Ha, maybe.
It's very upside down, isn't it?

Or old guys like me voted and the AT-only folks mostly passed on this poll?
A few here have fessed up, and good for them.
It's not like driving a MT is a badge of honor.

Used to be manual shift was a good deal cheaper than auto.
And more reliable. Not so much any more.

I’m happy with my manual taco. If I had stop and go traffic daily or towed a lot I’d get the automatic.

My wife and I both prefer MT, but I could not find a MT Taco so it's the first automatic in decades.

I've driven 3 on the tree; 4,5,6 speeds, diesel and gas fire trucks with MT.
