I love my Tacoma’s feeling of solidity, the calibration of the TRD OR ride off-road and on road, the dashboard design, the effectiveness of the automatic climate control and the clarity of the JBL sound. And I can live with TSS, Entune, the tight cabin space, the various vibrations and the fuel economy.

If it only provided a comfortable driving position, a more refined motor, better gearing and a responsive automatic transmission it would be perfect for me.

Pretty sure the turbo 1.4 motor in it is a FIAT engine. Miata uses a N/A 2.0. Still a fun little car though.

    It's complicated.
Look at the re-gearing thread on TW; many people have plunked down the serious $$$ and have been very happy with their decision.

If you honestly think this JBL audio system is clear, I can say you have never in fact heard a NICE audio system. The sound quality and quantity is less than my 2002 Honda Accord. The first thing I thought about doing was ripping it out and replacing it with Memphis M Class.

Agreed that the audio is not that good. However trying to make the best of it so, after much experimenting this is what sounds best to me in my access cab. A little hard to see but one notch up on the treble, 3 up on the mid and one notch down on the bass with about a 1/3 fade back to the rear. Mostly play classic rock/blues, Zeppelin, ACDC, G and R, SRV. plus a bit of surf music.

So far I'm liking the 19, no real complaints comfy modern sleek truck with all the accessories you could need. Mine is a manual trans quicksand Trd OR dcsb

    Main points:

    Negitive:

Little more driveline noise then I'd like from the clutch and rear diff I feel the driveline behind the transfer case is pretty loose. Maybe someone makes solid carrier bearing mounts I'm sure that would help alot.

MPG isnt really any noticeable difference from my 2nd gen not bad or good.

You really have to push the gas pedal for it to go.

3k-3.5k when vvti or timing or something changes, it's not a very smooth transition, feels like someone put a Vtec controller on this thing so it would slam on, it's cool to feel power pick up it definitely lives above 3k rpm, but man that transition could be smoother.

In some heavy wind I've noticed a bit of wobble/instability above say 65mph almost felt like it wanted to death wobble but never did.

Non JBL speakers could be better but a full kicker upgrade is 300$ or so and will sh*t on the jbl set up so no complaints.

Interior has some foamy soft bits like accents on the door panels and the center console, curious to see how they will hold up, they look nice but between me and my dog I see them wearing much worse then the 2nd gen bare bones plastic/hard rubber interior.
    Good:

Suspension feels great, soft yet tight, better then my 2nd gen TRD OR

Drives smoothly a bit more muted feeling on steering and feedback then the 2nd gen which adds comfort.

All the new tech is nice, blind spot monitoring, some crazy cruise control stuff, things I've never had in a car before and just make the experience better.

The push to deactivate the clutch to start is nice too, helps keep wear and tear down on the TOB/clutch system as a whole.

Power rear window, not much to say I'll never use it, but its preeetttyyyy cool.

All in all very happy with my 19 and would reccomend.

I bought a 2019 Tacoma TRD Sport, 6 spd Manual tranny on July 18/2019. First off, amazing fun with the stick and rubber in 1st and 2nd. The extended cab is great with a 19" by 48" carpeted dog shelf. I installed the patented bed stiffeners and LED interior lights. Next up is speakers and ladder rack for the kayak. So I love da Truck. What sucks is you can turn off the nannies but they all default back "on" every time the truck is started up, like wtf. NO TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WITH THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION!

I was quite happy with my 19 (OR 4x AT). I did have some minor things I didn't like:
    • old headlight tech
    • non locking fuel filler door (our Rav4 had it, and it was half the price...)
    • no apple carplay / android auto support
    • ACC too slow to react to acceleration changes, leads to people giving up behind you and going around you, causing the truck to slow down again just as it's finally starting to speed up
    • rear drum brakes
    • upside down, engine bay accessible, oil filter housing would've been nice (think FRS/GT86 or VW models)
    • i think the brake pedal and steering were unnecessarily heavy, maybe it's just a truck thing or a think you make you feel that it's tough idk
    • AT shift paddles on the steering wheel would've been nice for higher speed on-road hilly environments as I've experienced in TN/NC/GA, though I'd have bought an MT if I actually lived in such an environment
    • remote start option would've been nice
    • LED higher color temperature interior lighting would've been nice
    • ridiculous method of checking AT trans fluid level

I've had my '19 Tacoma OR 4x DCSB for about 3 weeks now and is the 4th tacoma I have owned. Previous ones have been 1st gens, 2 of them xtra cabs and 1 of them a single cab.

This has been the best purchase I have made thus far and I have no complaints ... well with the exception of the volume/seek control on the steering wheel being reversed... but I think that is something I will eventually get used to.

Interior is refined and doesn't feel very cheap, and seems like it will hold up for years to come. Interior space is just right, enough space to fit 2 adults and 1 child in the rear seats comfortably.

Transmission doesn't bother me since my commute is not very long for work. I don't plan on towing a boat or a 5th wheel either, maybe occasionally an utility trailer. (recommend a full size pickup to tow anything 6k lbs or more with ease)

When recently being in the market for a truck, I explored other options aside from Toyota. Ultimately it came down to the 3rd gen Tacoma or the brand new '19 Chevy Silverado. Although the interior of the silverado knocked it out the park, it always came back down to reliability and resale value. With it just being my wife and I along with our dog, we felt that there wasn't a need for a full size pickup. I believe it will also fit our future children comfortably in the rear seats.

19 pro..bought because I needed a little more towing power than my 17 4runner TRDPro. Not happy with Tacoma because of:

    Shitty brakes
    Shitty gas mileage
    Too much electronic bullshit
    Shitty transmission
    Engine struggles for power
Terrible trade value...trying to trade back to 4runner but nobody wants a trd Pro because they are not selling the new ones, at least where I live.

I like the seats, stereo, climate control ,exhaust note ,ride quality and looks of it.

I have a lot of issues with mine, but i’ve learned to be very zen about it.
No sense getting stressed out about little things. Great attitude for how much i offroad it too. She’s scratched to hell, and you should see my skid plates!

My only real compliant is the driver seat can get somewhat not comfortable after a few hours. I am 6'2'' 240 so I am a little bigger than average. Overall I am really happy w it. I do plan to regear to 5.29, moderate lift and 35s and be done.

The driveline shudder under hard acceleration & deceleration didn’t use to bother me, but the truck just broke 4,000 miles and it has become significantly more noticeable. The shudder is now quite evident even on cruise control, as something in the driveline cycles on-and-off.

I was hoping to hold onto this truck at least one year. But at this rate I’m not sure it’ll make it to ten months.

Traded back to a 2019 4runner TRD ORP after 10 months, couldn’t be happier at my decision and don’t miss Tacoma one bit. Always felt like Tacoma was going to fall apart at any moment with so many issues and 4Runner feels rock solid. If they can bring Tacoma drivetrain and brakes into modern era I would reconsider but for now 4runner is light years better.
