Remember that the current 3rd generation Tacoma is basically a refreshed 2nd generation truck. It came with a new 3.5l engine (shared with Camry), 6-speed tranny and interior but I believe the actual cab shell is exactly the same. The rear doors appear to use the exact same metal stamping dies from the 2nd generation model. Toyota revised the style lines on the lower section of the front doors, but it’s very minor. The front fenders, hood and bed stamping dies are new.

The 4th generation Tacoma and next generation Tundra are currently being designed to share an identical platform for greater production efficiencies, parts sharing, etc. It’s also been confirmed that the next generation Tundra will offer a hybrid power train, the first for a pickup truck.

Well, the Runner’s not going to give you trouble, but it also won’t cook you a nice dinner, so maybe it’s a wash.

I test drove the manual before I bought the automatic I got. I liked it. The clutch and shifter felt smooth and precise. The manual gearing seems much lower judging by the whirring sound that accompanied the shifting. It gave Tacoma a tough, tractor-like character that suits the truck well.

I ended going with the automatic for several reasons: (a) I already own a Fiat Spider manual; (b) off-roading with an automatic is 100 times easier than with a manual; (c) the manual’s MPG numbers are surprisingly lower. Hadn’t been for these, I’d have gone with the manual.

I traded in a 2.5L Outback with Eyesight for my 19 Tacoma. The CVT in that had fake shift points and had a driveline shudder upon acceleration.

I test drove two SRs and both had the rumble strip vibration when braking, the one I took home had it less than the other one. When I upgraded the tires it made the vibration a little less pronounced. TSS can get annoying on the interstate since it will brake before I pass, and it will downshift and rev quite a bit to keep speed. My Outbacks Eyesight system did the same exact thing. I think it’s better suited for two lane highways. As far as the 3.5L, I enjoy having an increase of 100hp over the Outback, and as far as the tranny I like having actual gears instead of fake shift points. The 6 speed tranny doesn’t bother me at all. I am getting advertised MPGs as well, so no complaints in that Dept.

Overall, I am very happy with the Tacoma.

Yeah. Im not sold on it. Still playing with the sensitivity some, but may just end up disabling it.

Turns out I never really use my blinkers, haha.

Test drove both a 2019 TRD OR and Sport. Auto vs Manual. Went with the sport manual. Yes I lost crawl control and the rear locker. Gained leather, sunroof, wireless charger, a proper trans and 4.30 gearing. Happy. I honestly believe manuals will be something lost in the future, hopefully my truck will be desirable if I decide to trade up.

Ram has been offering a hybrid with the 3.6 V6 and the 5.7 HEMI for a couple of years now.

Although everyone who got one is still trying to figure out what the actual benefit of it is...

And GM had a hybrid option in the last gen of their 1500s, though I think they stopped selling hybrid trucks. I don’t think hybrid trucks will ever sell by the masses, but there’s so many variables so who knows.

    It feels sluggish
After 7k miles my rear leaf springs got squeeky
I have some type of whistle sound during accel sometimes
I managed to get 19mpg out of it
It looks great but i was so close to trading for a 2018 denali since they had them for 39k well equipped last week
    I give it 8/10

Yes. That was like 2 or 3 generations ago. They disappeared during the financial crisis and bankruptcy.

If Toyota can find a way to deliver diesel-like performance and efficiency by means of hybrid technology, it may have a winner.

I had a 2018 Trd sport in 6MT and traded for a 2019 Trd Pro 6MT, enjoyed both. I wish the truck overall felt a little more torque-y but I've always loved tacomas and you cant beat the resale value making it easy to get a newer Tacoma later down the road.

Also had a 2gen Tacoma and loved that one as well. 3rd gen is way different (good and bad) in so many ways.
