I've averaged 4,175 mi. a year since I bought it brand new. I just paid it off and unless I can find a 4x4 Taco for a ridiculously low price, it's gonna be here for the long haul. Plus, I finally bought some correct fitting 16 in. wheels from SCS, the 5 lug F5's. After 4 years of owning it, my journey is just beginning...

I saved up from 2005 to 2011 to buy my truck. I LOVE the Tacoma. I'll be keeping it until the wheels fall off. Then I'll fix those wheels and do it again.

Thanks for the heads up! I've done some reading and it appears to be mostly a 2011-2012 issue. I do appreciate you letting me know about that though, as I'll keep an eye on it when I 100% decide on an engine (99% on the 5.0 right now).

    The Dust Bowl
I had my '87 for almost twenty years and have had my '06 for now nearly ten. After reading about all the rust problems some people are having I crawled under it today to give it a through inspection. The only rust I could find was a tiny amount near the rear springs and extensions for the cab and this was barely through the paint. The truck runs like the day I bought it and I just got around to beefing up the rear suspension, which I'd been wanting to do for hauling and trailer towing for some time but never got around to it as it really wasn't that big of a deal. Being nearly ten years old, the taxes (we pay property tax on vehicles in this state) and insurance costs on the truck are going down considerably too. Unless the 3rd gen Tacoma is some sort of amazing wonder truck or the new Tundra gets 25 mpg, I don't see why I'll not keep this one at least another ten years.

Oh yes, 4x4, double cab, SR5, TRD Off Road, tow package, topper, new tires -- I don't know much more that I could want. Well, a back-up camera would be nice but If I really wanted one I could just install one myself.

This is my 3rd one and like the others I will drive it as long as I can. :D
First one had a head gasket problem that, at the time, I couldn't afford to fix.
The second one, I out grew - or the family out grew I should say.

I'm planning on keeping my Taco until Toyota (or Ford) makes something with better fuel efficiency and more 21st century toys like push start ignition, LED lighting, BLIS, a REAL dash computer with LCD readout with stuff like TPMS, fuel mileage, inclinometer, tow toys, etc.

Yes, I know an F150 does this stuff now. But it's a barge. I don't want a barge.

I love my truck...disappointed in the frame rot tho. I do need a bigger truck & I've been looking. The new Tundras are too big w/ worse mileage. Idk about going back to chevy & never owned a ford. I doubt GM or ford would honor frame rot the way Toyota has.

Why did you give up the diesel?

Because I made about $7000 on the trade, would have been dumb not to trade also I couldn't justify having a diesel..

Considering that my Taco is the first vehicle ive ever owned, and I have one payment until i own it in full, i plan on driving it until the wheels fall off or the engine blows up.

I'm keeping mine until the '15 F150 comes out. I have really need to step up to a full-size for a couple of years now and I seriously dislike the Tundra. :anonymous:

The 2015 look nice they should hit the dealerships around December. Just traded my tacoma in for the 2014 ecoboost spercrew, nice truck but its big to park compared to the tacoma in parking lots. The ford is a lease so it might go when the 2015 come out or i might just keep it. I already got rapped when i traded in the tacoma for the ford. Wont be any incentives on the 15's for a long time.
