Dealerships make BANK off of that stuff. They sell extended warranties to make a profit. Therefore, they expect to any repairs covered under extended warranties sold to cost less than what they charge for the extended warranties. Hell, the price you pay for an extended warranty probably doesn't even cover 90% of the actual repairs you would ever get done under it.

Do you need to know, or care?
I was 3/4 low, but never experienced this issue.

That's not a low fluid issue. it's just how the tranny is. Don't be so picky.

I don't own a Toyota(Ford guy possibly converting) but saw this comment of the Chevy Colorado and had to reply. You know that will be a POS in 2 yrs or less. I will admit I like the look but that's it

Really? Most cars today last well over 100,000 miles. A 3/4 quart low transmission fluid level isn't a big deal and won't affect the transmission to any measureable amount. I haven't driven your truck, so I can't really comment about the slipping, but everyone has different experiences.... that being said, this engine/transmission combo is a little shift happy.... especially if you live in a hilly area.

If you don't like your truck, the sell it and get what you want.

I doubt this is true. It may not be as good as the S series, but it'll be better than the 1st gen Colorado..... it'll likely be an okay vehicle. The ones I looked at were actually ok. They definitely had a lot more features than the Taco. The Taco did feel better put together though.

Man up a little bro, its not the end of the world. We are talking .75qts! You really think .75 low will amount to any difference in the way the tranny operates, guess what , it wont.

I see you are in So Cal. I don't live anywhere close to there, but I know there are many So Cal members here and maybe you could set up a meeting with one of them to get there opinion on whether its a transmission problem, fluid problem, or no problem at all. Also, if you really are concerned about it lasting, and you are under the 3 yr/36k mile warranty, you can still purchase an extended warranty if I am correct.

I was having tranny problems, painted the fill plug with nail polish, got the dealer to manually check the fluid. I was there for 6 hours (temp had to cool down), it was 2 quarts low and they adjusted the fluid level. When I got home I checked the fill plug and it appeared to not have been removed, but there was fluid residue on the bolt and on the side of the tranny itself and the overfill plug had red tranny fluid on it; the dealership did do the proper check manually and topped the fluid, because it has been shifting better ever since. I caught the issue just under 800 miles thanks to this forum. So, it may appear that the bolt was never moved even though it was, as it was in my situation. Maybe they were being smart alecks since I painted it, but at least I know it has been topped off and it runs better. BTW, they flashed the ECU, so it would relearn my driving style properly.

If you put an index mark on the bolt and case, that mark will line back up perfectly...assuming it's been put back at the same torque. It's not like the thread count changes. It's entirely possible that the bolt was removed and replaced and you wouldn't know it.

    Whole lotta stuff
Please define slip? If an automatic transmission is slipping, the problem is the clutch or a clutch-operation component in the torque converter. Otherwise gears would be grinding and your problem would be eaten up syncros.

Most Toyota vehicles including my 2nd Gen, hold on shifting from 1st to 2nd as well as to 3rd and 4th while the engine is cold. The reason this is, is to let the engine rev high for a few moments, before selecting a gear, to allow the engine to warm up. The most wear on an engine almost always occurs right after startup while the engine is cold due to clearances that will fill once the engine components and oil have reached operating temperature. So this shifting anomaly may not be a problem, but rather by design to make your engine last longer. Thanks Toyota.

I said what I said because I have worked on cars long enough to know how stuff works... I also have a pretty good idea how stuff gets designed and manufactured.

If 3/4 of a quart is enough to grenade a transmission, that really doesn't leave much room for error, temperature changes, or leaks past that rear seal huh? You better check your fluid daily.

The likely culprit behind all the various and inconsistent transmission issues (real and not perceived) is poor QC at the transmission shop. A little piece of trash can get stuck in all kinds of places in a valvebody or whatever Toyota uses to control the Automatic.... That can really cause havoc.

I also think some of the issues are from people who aren't used to this engine/transmission combo. It is a little shift happy..... Unless you paw paw it on flat land.

Do what you want.... It's your truck.

The clutches aren't in the torque converter..... They are basically between the steels which are essentially gears that lock in and out inside a drum which connects to the output shaft.

The torque converter is basically a fluid coupling between the engine and transmission with guide vanes that direct fluid in a direction to spin the transmission internals.
