If you’re wondering if you should replace your Camry door speakers while keeping the same JBL head unit, let me give you some advice….

The JBL amp sends only lows to the door speakers, therefore replacing the speakers with coaxial or triaxial speakers is a complete waste of time.

Knowing that the speakers in the JBL system are 2 ohms really limits you to what you can replace them with. JBL and Clarion are about the only choices that you have. I used JBL GTO928 coaxials in mine, only because I could not find a plain old 2 ohm full range speaker.

After the fact does it sound any better… NO. IMO, replace your speakers only if you have one fail… and they will. Don’ t spend a bunch of cash with hopes that it will sound better, you’ll only get what the JBL amp gives you, which isn’t horrible, but not great.

Will off the shelf 6X9 speakers fit, yes. You will have to dremel 2 tabs off of the OEM plastic door adapter that was used by the OEM speaker (see red arrow). You can clip off the wires from the OEM speaker, extend them, solder them to the new speaker, and utilize all of the OEM connectors. No need to buy any kind of adapters, plugs, ect.

Pic 1, side by side comparison old and new
Pic 2 , side by side rear.. much bigger magnets
Pic 3, the tab that needs to be dremeled off to get the new speakers to fit
Pic 4, using OEM wires, just extended, everything fits perfect.

I hope that this information saves you some aggravation....
