Naval Special Warfare Development Group (DEVGRU) aren't really SEALs per se... comparing them to SEALs is like comparing the Ferrari to a Mustang, both of which are quick cars but the Ferrari is a whole another level.

DEVGRU is a tier-one anti-terrorism force whereas SEALs are Tier-two along with Rangers and Force Recon.

Tier One are "black" elements, which are national-level assets that comprise the highest level on the United States Special Operations Command spectrum and National Command Authority. The chain of command for these units bypasses traditional military bureaucracy, and they will be deployed directly by the President, Joint Chiefs, and/or Defense Secretary. These units are the most selective, with acceptance rates of 10 to 15 percent and include the US Army's secretive Delta Force and the US Navy's counterpart DEVGRU.

DEVGRU and Delta are the black-ops guys whereas SEALs ard the like are grey-ops... traditionally, less secretive missions

DEVGRU is pretty much the equivalent to Chuck Norris...:D

I've mulled enlisting for the last few years. Every now and again, i get a wild hair and think about it. Having ROTC experience, I'd go OCS and working in wireless communications, I'd more than likely have an "in the rear with the gear" type job.

I went to school for intelligence and counter-terrorism. All the CIA jobs go to people with boots on the ground military experience.

But the private sector has its perks too. The route I want to go means no personal life for 20 years or so and I'm not sure I want that.

Haha no joke, then everyone fails out. Haha, but I did hear that they were lowering the qualifications to make it into the Navy SEALs because their fail rate was too high to continue going on.

You guys should read "Rogue Warrior" by Richard Marcinko. He's the badass that created Team 6(DEVGRP). Very interesting how they came to be the cream of the crop.

Everyone fails out and all the crappy jobs they can't normally fill get a bunch of new guys, lol.

As for the SEALs lowering their standards - I had heard some stuff about that; but I have yet to confirm that for myself. I know when I was shooting at Dam Neck, VA that they were a tough as nails group of guys. It was pretty cool the few times we saw them out training.

That book had the opposite affect on me, I wanted to do it so bad and trained for about 4 months for the PST and then decided to finish college before I do anything. I have a friend that's in Coronado right now for SWCC training, he says its hell but he loves it.
