Yeah I live in California so every year they do small meaningless changes similar to that. Like this year there trying to outlaw the bullet button. And also trying to add the mini 14 type rifles to the assault weapons list.

S&W make some great guns, this is the basic AR-15, at the low end of your budget so you can buy magazines and ammo, and after you get used to iron sights you could upgrade to an optic.

I think my build is going to resemble this to a T, I'll post pics next week when it's all together. My main goal was shaving weight, any idea how much yours weighs?

Lets bump this to the top. Last post was more then 3 years ago. Seemingly lots of people that don't usually buy guns and ammo, are doing that now, with the Corona Virus, and the uncertainty in the upcoming election.
Why are people buying AR's of all types that have never shot a gun in their life? Proper training and a pistol of the persons liking, i.e. comfortable with, will protect your household better then carrying a clumsy rifle trying to run around inside your house.
Design wise, AR's are for, around, 100 yards and out, way out for AR10 variants. Most houses the yard isn't that big, shooting these guns in the house will endanger all your neighbors as the bullet flies through the next couple of houses. Proper ammo can negate most of this, but still, why is EVERYTHING being bought up by people that will probably never shoot it?

    Rant over, obligatory pictures.

Loaded 25 round .308, at 9 pounds, fuck yeah.

    Um, no.

    https://www.pewpewtactical.com/home-defense-overpenetration/

    Or pick your own source.

Pretty every round is gonna have some overpenetration (unless you get frangibles, or go small in your pellet sizes).

It's a matter of ergonomics, and IMO in a stress situation a modern short carbine is one of the best handling weapons out there. Which means you'll have better aim with it as well.

    YMMV.
