Article 133 - Conduct unbecoming an officer and gentleman

“Any commissioned officer, cadet, or midshipman who is convicted of conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.”

    Elements.

    (1) That the accused did or omitted to do certain acts; and

    (2) That, under the circumstances, these acts or omissions constituted conduct unbecoming an officer and gentleman.

    Explanation.

    (1) Gentleman. As used in this article, “gentleman” includes both male and female commissioned officers, cadets, and midshipmen.

    (2) Nature of offense. Conduct violative of this article is action or behavior in an official capacity which, in dishonoring or disgracing the person as an officer, seriously compromises the officer’s character as a gentleman, or action or behavior in an unofficial or private capacity which, in dishonoring or disgracing the officer personally, seriously compromises the person’s standing as an officer. There are certain moral attributes common to the ideal officer and the perfect gentleman, a lack of which is indicated by acts of dishonesty, unfair dealing, indecency, indecorum, lawlessness, injustice, or cruelty. Not everyone is or can be expected to meet unrealistically high moral standards, but there is a limit of tolerance based on customs of the service and military necessity below which the personal standards of an officer, cadet, or midshipman cannot fall without seriously compromising the person’s standing as an officer, cadet, or midshipman or the person’s character as a gentleman.

This article prohibits conduct by a commissioned officer, cadet or midshipman which, taking all the circumstances into consideration, is thus compromising. This article includes acts made punishable by any other article, provided these acts amount to conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman. Thus, a commissioned officer who steals property violates both this article and Article 121.

Whenever the offense charged is the same as a specific offense set forth in this Manual, the elements of proof are the same as those set forth in the paragraph which treats that specific offense, with the additional requirement that the act or omission constitutes conduct unbecoming an officer and gentleman.

    (3) Examples of offenses. Instances of violation of this article include knowingly making a false official statement; dishonorable failure to pay a debt; cheating on an exam; opening and reading a letter of another without authority; using insulting or defamatory language to another officer in that officer’s presence or about that officer to other military persons; being drunk and disorderly in a public place; public association with known prostitutes; committing or attempting to commit a crime involving moral turpitude; and failing without good cause to support the officer’s family.

Does anyone have any modern day examples of conduct unbecoming of an officer???

Met with a recruiter a few times. Scored high enough on the official practice asvab that I'm qualified for any job I wanted. Tips to study for the actual asvab? Health tips to drop a few pounds? What should my workouts look like to prepare?

Eating only celery and peanut butter worked for me, lost 7 pounds two weeks before boot camp. As for the ASVAB... I guess just keep doing practice tests, the information covered on it is pretty generic. Any idea on what rates you were looking at?

I'm thinking ET or GM right now. But I'm not against OS I just heard they're a pretty boring rate.

I think it just depends what you want to do, GM's now are kind of limited to what they can do. If you want to fix and repair small arms, well, that job is pretty difficult to get as a lot of shoreside GM's are being turned into basically bullet counters. ET's are being pushed more into the engineering departments on cutters because of the electronics systems necessary to run most of the mechanical systems. Where as shore side it will be a lot of work on radios.

Well, I'm at a Maintenance Augmentation Team right now, so it is a lot of preventative maintenance on the new National Security Cutters. Sometimes larger projects like overhauling small boats and systems on the cutters. Previously I was at a MSST where I was considered out of rate. I basically was a Boarding Officer and a Coxswain conducting security watches in small boats next to large high risk events and presidential protection details. Sometimes we did boardings on large vessels entering in and out of ports.

I've mentored a few folks that wanted to enlist.

    1) If you smoke QUIT!

    2) Train beyond the PT test standards. My advice is you should be able to Max out before you go to basic.
    3) Eat high protein diet to lean out. Also stop using supplements if you do. Some might make you piss hot. In basic you ain't going to have them.
    4) Lots of cardio and if you lacking in upper body do dumbells. You'll probably be doing a lot of bodyweight exercises. If they have an obstacle course learn to climb a rope. Same with pull-ups do dead hangs not those bullshit crossshit ones.
    5) learn the rank structure and the general orders of a sentry. You'll thank me later.
    6) Dump your significant other one less distraction.
After basic you'll have more women then you'll know what to do with.( I fell for that line of shit twice.)
    7) Above all else a Positive Attitude. No matter how bad it gets a positive attitude will get you through it.
    8) Everyone fucks up in basic, drive on.
    9) Have the recruiter give you the PT test to see where you are.

Good luck, I served in the Navy then switched to Army. That advice has helped 4 folks through training.

Definitely the biggest thing is positive attitude. As ling as you maintain a positive and dedicated attitude anything is possible.
