Thank you for reminding me about this chris. There has been a lot going on. I think i may be able to get one going without a problem. I am going to cap it at 10 (for screen purposes) so we can all see each other. If anyone else is interested in something like this, please PM me your email and I can send out an invite.

    Today was a good day.

I did not take a sip of that potion, but I did hit that three wheel motion.

Going on 7 months sober now.

It gets better, everything gets better, just wish it hadn't taken what it did for me to realize it.

I don't really want to get into my "story" here though, if you need help though feel free to PM me.

Around month 4 I realized a good portion of my inability to be social, my lethargy, sleeping problems, anxieties and stress were actually caused by the drink I was consuming inorder to be able to tolerate those problems in the first place.

I was still able to maintain the bare minimum of functionality, was still making it to work sober and was sober all day but couldn't wait to get home and drink to unwind and relax and sleep, and I would always over do it, every day, and weekends? Forget it.

Thought to myself "I can't be an alcoholic, I can be sober!", but really if given the option I couldn't, I could only do it when I had some other greater priority.

I wanted to be drunk and that's not okay.

    7 months sober now.

Money, sleep, mood, energy, waistline, attitude, anxiety, socal capability, even my hair, incredibly better.

Best part is I don't stare longingly at my shotgun daily wondering how bad it would really be to give it a good suck start just once.

My recovery has really allowed me to dive back into modding the Tacoma and playing with it, actually still have some maintenance I need to catch up on that fell by the wayside.

Couldn't have done it without, well, frankly, God, my family and friends and a rude awakening, I am so fortunate God answers prayers and my friends and family stuck with me.

Finally got help and my meds are actually working now.

At this point the bodily cravings are long gone and so is the emotional dependency.

Really cool there's a group on TW here, wish I knew about it a year ago.

To anyone reading this, you can do it!

I am so happy to hear about your success! Things get better each and every day. We start to learn how to "feel" again. There will be some ups and some downs but we all do our best to keep up. God speed on this journey and we will all be there for each other.

Just wish I had the last four or five years back, but second best time to plant a tree is today or so the saying goes.

I really am amazed at how much alcohol affected me, my health and my life, even in areas I had no idea of and blamed on many other factors.

Watching the recovery has been enlightening and I hope things continue to improve.

Much love. It's amazing how much everything changes. I said the same of my last straw, but I had chances to learn prior and didn't so I needed the lesson.

Had 7 years Christmas eve. Before that I had around 30 years. This disease is progressive. Its not just the amount of alcohol I was able to drink so fast it was the fast onset of depression, jitteryness, fear, paranoia, lack of empathy for anyone anywhere not being able to sleep, whole body hurting, pouring it down the drain only to return to the abc store an hour later. I give God all the credit he is doing for me what I cannot do for myself. For those of you in the program its true thaat if you quit going to meetings long enough you will probably drink again

Congrats on the 7 years, and the 30 years. Thank you for your post. I had a little over 4.5 years, and partially due to covid got disconnected and stopped hitting meetings. Then on July 4th I randomly decided to drink. Instantly regretted it but kept drinking and got a new sobriety date, July 5th. I'll have 6 months on Jan 5th, instead of a a little over 5 years.

Incredibly proud of everyone in this thread. OP you brought tears to my eyes.

My brother who was my best friend ultimately succumbed to his addiction and killed himself while in withdrawal. I miss him every day and breaks my heart seeing how it has aged my mom. It aged all of us. Something so unexpected is not something you can just snap out of.

I dabbled with alcohol and substance abuse in my twenties and don’t touch anything since my brothers death. I do consume cannabis though, medically.

Addiction and depression don’t discriminate. I wish mental health was taken more seriously. The county I live in did away with the mental health ward in their hospital which is something I’ll never understand as I know several people it helped including myself.

    Bless you all.
