Also keep in mind you must run at least 91 octane with a supercharger and more than likely you'll need some kind of fuel mod to keep from running lean (URD 7th injector, methanol injection, larger fuel injectors, high flow fuel pump, etc.) unless you're lucky. Also 2 step cooler spark plugs.

    Boost ain't cheap

2nd gens (4.0s) are lucky in that you don't require any supporting fuel mods unless you modify the blower for more boost, and even then it's not always necessary. But overall it's more expensive to boost the 4.0...the blower itself is more expensive and you guys require a piggyback tuner or ECU reflash to run it.

What would you say a rough estimate for fuel mods etc for the 1st gen to get it to run would be, if the sc was in good condition? rebuild costs?

I emailed the seller to ask what kind of maintenance he has done and if he changed the oil, i read some peeps change it at 50-70 k just to be safe, some let it run to 120k and ran into issues. No response as of yet...boost would be sweet, not sure i have the dough for this right now but maybe hahah

Depends...the 3.4l supercharger is advertised as a bolt-on-and-go modification, and for some people it is...but others (like myself) experience lean issues with the stock setup and it seems to be pretty common. You have 3 options to compensate for running lean that I know of...the URD 7th injector kit (which I have), runs about $900 and is basically a 7th fuel injector that plugs into the back of the supercharger and sprays fuel into it when you hit a certain amount of boost, which helps even out your air/fuel ratio and stop the pinging from running lean. There's also methanol injection which is the same concept but instead of spraying fuel through the supercharger, you're spraying a methanol mixture which also evens out the A/F ratio and has the added benefit of cooling the supercharger itself. Those kits are usually cheaper, somewhere around the $400-500 range.

People that have the EGR system on their trucks can't run the 7th injector kit (not sure about methanol) so URD sells a kit that replaces the 6 stock injectors with 6 larger ones to accommodate higher fuel flow, I think it's around $900 as well.

Also you want to run at least a boost gauge and a wideband AFR gauge...neither one comes with the supercharger, have to get them separately.

No prob. I have a love/hate relationship with mine lol...my truck came with it on. I personally would never have considered doing one if it had come stock, I'm less concerned with power/performance and more into offroad capabilities/performance. But it's fun to have. Just adds a lot more to your plate that you have to take into consideration with certain things, not to mention boost is a rabbit hole of mods on it's own. Also by no means does it make the 3.4l a "fast" motor or turn the Taco into a race truck...you can tell it's adding horsepower for sure but you'll still get beat off the line by most other cars on the road, lol. At least I do with the heavy tires and armor weight.

But I'll be goddamned if that blower whine doesn't give me a partial boner each time I downshift into 3rd or 4th and mash the gas pedal :burnrubber:

The ad says "fits a Toyota Tacoma 6 foot tray" and "Top is more worn than the attached pictures" so he may have just pulled some pics from Google for the ad.... hit him up and ask!
