Sooooo after a lot of drama on trying to get my first truck...my grandma and my mom said that they would put a down payment for a new car/truck for me and help pay the payments off if I put some money in as well... so I was wonderibg what are the different models of the first gen that have a 4x4? Im looking at maybe a stick shift because I fall asleep while driving an auto trqnny lol.
I hopefully will look for a tacoma 1st gen and maaaaybe if I can find a good deal an older second gen
    any help would be appreciated.

depends on the milage and trim package but Id say for a nice, decent miles, trd 4x4 first gen, 10-17k. Dont go to dealers tho. I get my 05 trd offroad with 70k miles for 13k from a private listing.

Try looking for ones that have 100k miles or less. That white double cab looks nice tho for the price. Also, if you are looking on craigslist and autotrader or whatever, make sure that the truck doesnt have a salvage title on it. That basically means it was in a wreck and insurance is gunna skyrocket. Ill keep an eye out for u tho. Whats your budget?

    These are good deals

    05 access cab

    http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.j...ype=p&num_records=25&cardist=9&standard=false

    06 tacoma

    http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.j...pe=p&num_records=25&cardist=35&standard=false

    07

    http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.j...pe=p&num_records=25&cardist=16&standard=false

I REALLY like this one tho. These first gens have really strong engines

    http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.j...pe=p&num_records=25&cardist=31&standard=false

Remember to hagle tho when you are buying. Ask if theyd take a price lower that your budget and work from there.

    Thanks, helps a lot. :D

Not sure what my budget is right now exactly..may be a little low, like around 13-15k? So I think a 1st gen would better fit the price since I have seen some 1st gens with the trd off-road package for around that price

i bought a 2nd gen stock, TRD Sport DCLB for that same price of 16K with 75K miles so thats a bit overpriced but i didnt read any of the mods, even then they dont make the value go up and private parties will try to make money off those mods they did

probably about right. however i'd seriously question the comment about dealers in your situation. the supply of what you're looking for will probably be very limited, so IF you find one you really like and it's at a dealer, that may be one of your only options. it took me months to find one i liked, and even then i had to compromise and get an access cab instead of a dc. good luck with a manual tranny in so cal... hope you don't sit in traffic much!
