I've done gears before and it wasn't fun, but it only took us 3hrs to do the rear.

more like 800 for install .. 400 each front and rear .. my parts were about 600, then tax on the whole thing.

plus, they gave me a fresh alignment for free :D

Right - front AND rear AND factory rear locker.

They had two guys attack it and it took about 3-4 hours (plus 45 minutes to drive to Toyota and get a new axle seal that they broke)

8 man hours for $800 seems pretty reasonable to me.
EDIT - my old company charged $125-150/hour for the IT services I provided to our customers - so this was a deal from my perspective as I have little auto-mechanical skills.

my plan of attack is to take out 3rd member and front diff and bring it to a shop for them to do, then bolt them back on my truck. should knock out a good few hundred off labor

more like the first 500-1000 miles....you drive the truck for 20ish minutes to let the gears heat up then stop, let them cool down and keep doing that
    Do not drive over 40-50mph

    Even ask monkeyproof

wtf really? that would need some careful planning to not exceed those speeds for 1000 miles.

    mall crawl anyone?

Matt didn't u have a mt tire on at the time? Those style tires on 2wd likes to dig big time! An at tire works way better in da sand for 2wd or lower hp #s. There is a bunch of 2wd guys going, getting stuck is all part of the fun. There is plenty of us 4x guys to help u out ;)
