Looking for some trails that my stock 2wd could do nothing crazy even if it was a hard packed dirt rode that be cool with me. Trying to find some where to take the girlfriend out for the day and maybe hike around if possible.

Are there any trails like that around socal?

I'm always interested in this. I got around Blair Valley in Anza Borrego just fine in my 4x2. I really want to explore more of Anza Borrego and Joshua Tree but would like to know which trails are more suited for 2wd before getting stuck. It would be cool if more people chimed in on this thread.

I'd be interested in this thread as well. Holy Jim is a good road for what you want to do OP. Can "offroad" until the trailhead and then hike from there. Bimmers can make it back when the road is grated flat enough. :D

In the Banning/Beaumont area, there is an old folk community called Sun Lakes. Behind that, there's a few paved roads that turn to dirt and there are tons of trails. There will usually be a few trucks with dirt bikes there. There are tons of easy trails for 2WD, but there's also more difficult trails for 4WD. If you go far enough, there's tons of places to shoot too. If you get high enough on one of the hills, you can see an old military base/bunker. I'll show pics of the area marked on a map, and some early OffRoad pictures I got (all in 2wd because my 4wd is acting up)

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
If memory serves me correct: that area isn't far enough East to be legally shot in. I believe you have to be clear east of Banning to legally be on BLM you can shoot in.

    I could be wrong.

There are signs on the main road telling when you're out of Banning and legally allowed to shoot. Just gotta look for the signs.

Took Split Mountain Road to the Wind Caves in Anza Borrego this weekend in my stock 2wd '16 DCLB. Just need to carry a little more momentum through some of the soft sand in the beginning. I didn't got past the wind caves (that was my destination) so I wasn't on the trail very long. Possibly could have kept going back a bit further. It's very cool back there.

Go south on S Highland Springs Ave. The road will literally turn to dirt, but there's plenty of places to turn off the main road (you'll eventually want to because the main road ends.) Pay attention to the signs though, some of the land is private property. There's a part owned by the city for land conservation or something like that. I think it's only cause there's a military bunker there. It's supposed to be abandoned but there's still black SUVs that go on the trail to the bunker. And if you get too close or somehow get past the gate, there's always a cop that shows up (at least for me and everyone I've talked to that's done it).

Yeah it's a decent place to ride around. Nothing like Johnson Valley, Glamis, Ocotillo Wells, etc. But it's super super super close to town. It's nice especially if you live in Beaumont or Banning.
