SoCal Truck Spotting - Stalking for Some =P

I see quite a few Taco's out here on the road, I need to start snapping some pics, I'll keep an eye out for ya

 

I bought a bright red GFC V2 camper just so i could have a higher chance of being spotted, and still nothing living here in PB and driving all over the county.

at this point i figure i have better chances with a lotto ticket.

 

Definitely the main reason for that purchase

Just like how I Raptorlined my truck bright red for the exact same purpose

Ironically my stock prerunner has been spotted multiple times in the past

 

Maybe because the prerunner has a dildo antenna...or was it a hitch?

 

I can't afford that beast. Gas alone would put me in debt. Plus I would've parked that bitch between the lines. Be there next week. Gonna drive the wife's subi cause, well, fuck gas prices.

Is your license plate wrapped, or is that a new color scheme that is offered in California? I've seen a few in that color now, but I can't seem to find it as an option to order.

That's pretty cool, but I think the plate in the above pic is a normal one, since it has the colored stickers. maybe painted?

 

That's what I thought at first, but the colored registration sticker tells me otherwise (those electronic Rplates have a selectable black/white or white/black color scheme only). I was just curious, because I've been seeing more and more of them, and I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. I LOVE the color scheme - looks great on his truck, and would look good on mine too (also a white truck with black accents). But I've also heard that the CHP is cracking down on these and issuing citations as they see them, because more and more people are modifying their license plates or running replica plates that aren't actually state-issued (and aren't legal). In fact, I saw this post on a CHP Facebook page recently:

 

Hey guys, no its not wrapped or the smart plate that @theolee mentioned. @JFanaselle is correct. Its a novelty plate I ordered from Etsy. The plate number is my actual plate number. I did get my replacement month and year stickers through DMV. I have known the risks of possibly getting dinged on it, but haven't had any issues with law enforcement so far.

I drive mellow so hopefully they leave me be. I should just get a smart plate...I do keep my DMV issued plates in the back seat just in case its ever an issue.

 

Thanks for clarifying. I was really hoping it was a state-issued option now. I'll cross my fingers for you, too, because it's such a badass color and looks amazing on your truck. I really wish the state would just start offering that color option (think of how much money they'd make on them). Unfortunately, I would get popped pretty quickly if I tried to run what you have. I'm a photojournalist and I'm usually interacting directly with the CHP several times per week. Would be pretty hard to keep it low key. Although none of them have given me a hard time yet for my tinted windows or lack of front license plate.

 

Always appreciate a good Mini Taco. Spotted on the way home from work on 94 EB in La Mesa. Only other configuration I would take get a Tacoma in.

 

I have been told that it is not illegal in CA to drive without a front license plate if you purchased the vehicle without such a plate.

Is it true? Idk. Personally I just run with a front plate. Never understood the issues with it.
