i'll likely have a snorkel long before i buy sliders. The Mountain Goat has such a short wheelbase that I'm less concerned about my rocker panels than i am about water/dust

You live in Huntington beach not the Amazon. Deepest water crossing around these parts are mojave road and maybe azusa canyon both under air filter height as along as you don't go full splash mtn on them.

Save your money snorkel for gas for trips and and get sliders

don't need no damn snorkel, just make sure you have done the diff breather relocate thing. I would be more concerned with water intrusion into the front diff actuator, since that maybe a cause of internal corrosion that makes it hard to engage or sometimes not engage at all into 4wd ...

So a snorkel doesn't double as a periscope when I'm underwater?

I'm still waiting for someone here to do the redneck snorkel/CAI: reroute their stock intake through the cab and up against the air conditioner vents...crank up the cold AC and bam: clean, fresh & filtered cold air intake

speaking of redneck snorkels, @stvstoy and I saw an older Subaru Outback at Azusa Canyon last summer blasting through the mud pit with a homemade PVC snorkel. He must have been submerged up to his windows to get through the water crossing at the entrance, so I guess it worked pretty well despite being ugly as sin...

This is the Mojave crossing? Was this recent? Looks a little deeper than it did about this time last year, assuming we have about the same amount of lift.

Wasn't so bad, I don't remember having to clean any off after the fact...mostly just water when we went through it. Probably changes a lot though depending on recent weather. What you really want to watch out for is Soda Lake, the dry lake bed...if it's rained recently that shit will make your frame qualify for the recall by the time you get home if you aren't careful.

did someone say redneck snorkel ? My first pile of parts back in 2006... Poor truck hahaha. ended up blowing 3 transmissions so I cut it in half and cut the roof off and turned it into a trailer... Thankfully tossed the snorkel in the recycle bin...:amen:

Speaking from experience with that sweet sewer pipe snorkel... my air filter still got dusty and needed to be changed every other oil change. but wtf do I know pieced together a snorkel at OSH.

now back to the usual 5 lug spottings.

HA! What a newb. Buying a snorkel kit to make your truck look extra super legit and extend your $8 air filter service life by a factor of 1.663 gets you at least 600 overlander points. Building your own is worth negative points. I thought you knew the rules by now...
