I had a Softopper on my Jeep for years w/ no issues and recently put one on my Tacoma. I always liked the look of the Softopper better then any other options. Satisified customer rant below.......

A few years back I called them about the Jeep top and they told me the owner had one on his Jeep if I wanted to see it(I'm about an hour away). I drove over and he walked me through it so I decided to buy. They ended up bringing me to the back and allowing me to watch the process of putting my top together and I walked out with it. When I got home I hulked out on one of the straps and broke a clip. I called them and they over nighted several replacements free of charge w/ a note saying "Next time try not to hulk out!". I then had an issue w/ the header that was supplied w/ the Jeep top so I went and bought another brand that worked better. I called and spoke w/ Softopper about it to let them know of the issue I had and they sent me a check the next day to cover my cost of the new header. I never asked for money or anything really as part of our conversation.

Based on my previous experience it was a no brainer when it came time to get the topper for the Tacoma. I called them up and we talked for a bit and I told them I'd like to order but would pick up to save on shipping. They said not to worry about it and overnighted it to me for free. I don't know if others have had similar experiences w/ Softopper or not but, based on my dealings with them, they'll get my business any time.

I love the topper on my truck especially how versatile it is. I bought it for a road trip over Christmas to keep the dogs and some gear protected from the elements and it worked like a champ. I recently tried to fold the top up so I could load 3 mountain bikes into the fork mounts on the front rail but the fabric was in the way. Popped a couple of pins out and the top was off. We finished our ride, unloaded the bikes, and about 5 minutes later the top was back on. Being a former Jeep guy I'm looking forward to running it safari style this summer. I know the dogs will love it.

Attached are a couple of pics from the road trip.

Can you take a picture of the hooks that the back bar slides into. Want to see the relation as far as how close to the edge of the bed side they are. Your ropper looks a little tighter on the sides then mine and wondering if i need to move my side rail bars out some

I've been going back on forth on an ARE fiberglass option or one of these. I like the look of the Softopper and the quick transformer-like qualities.

    How water tight is it?

One of my friend's was saying he's seen this material get slashed on Jeeps before. Anyone have that happen on their truck?

Finally, anyone have the rear screen option and storage bag--worth it?

Really on the fence. I like the price too (significantly cheaper!).

Thanks for the persuasion, I'm pretty sure my wife isn't so grateful. How do they hold up over time?

I have a 2nd gen, but pretty much the same thing. I went with a bestop soft top. I liked having the side windows for limiting blind spots. I got mine randomly from a guy on eBay that sells blemished car parts. I paid $160 shipped to my door, and only the support frame had some minor scratches on it. But it's in a truck bed and couldn't give 2 fucks. The softtopper is nice too, just a preference of side windows or not. I've ran it for 2 1/2 years with no issues, but I also remove it for off-roading. Lots of sharp branches that could cause punctures.

Seems there is a decent gap between the topper and the cab. Has anyone had any problems with wind while driving down the highway? Like a lot of others, I also keep going back and forth between a soft top and a hard top.

@Longboard1110 brings up a good point about branches. Has anyone had any issues while using it offroad on tight trails and it getting damaged by branches?

I currently have Gatortrax retractable bed cover. Do you think a soft topper can be installed without having to remove the Gatortrax? I'll also look on YouTube etc.
Also how much noise does the softtop make. I do road trips in Texas and doing 80-85 on the interstate is the norm. Thanks for any input.

I've only had this topper on for a few months and haven't had any issues. I had the Jeep top for 4 or 5 years w/ no problems other than the plastic windows getting a bit scratched up but that's to be expected.

I adjusted my top forward to close the gap a bit just because I didn't like the look of the larger gap. I've never had any issues at all in regards to wind. About the branches, I haven't wheeled yet w/ the top on but plan to quite a bit this summer. With that being said, I wheeled my Jeep quite a bit w/ the top on and never had an issue w/ it getting torn or punctured. Not saying it couldn't happen, just haven't seen it.

It's not water tight as I have had water get in the bed when washing the truck w/ a power washer. I have not seen water in the bed after snow or rain. In regards to the tops being slashed, I haven't experienced it but it is a soft material so if someone wanted to they could.

That's cool they went to metal hooks. They gave me plastic but it's still holding up good.

I was tempted but it's not as versatile as a Softopper at all. And the price point puts it at or around an actual hard topper from ARE or Leer with options.

    Love my softtopper!

I have an all-pro steel bed rack and keep thinking about ordering one of these to go under it. I think the thing thats keeping me back is the frame. I think that with the all pro rack and the internal softtopper frame will really prevent me from accessing the stuff in the truck bed. If i buy one i may take it to a boat shop for some modifications. I would like to have some straps added so that i can strap the canvas to my all pro rack and remove the internal frame. I think there is alot more to consider before moving forward one of the 1000's of ideas for truck mods
