hmm that's pretty neat. Anyone know if anyone makes brackets for mounting things like roto packs or jerry cans?

Well after losing a deal on the Bestop in the buy/sell thread, I did some more research. I decided that the higher price of the Softopper was worth it for a product that is 3rd Gen specific, seems to be better engineered, and definitely has better customer support, as I've tried speaking to both and talking to Bestop has been like pulling teeth. It's supposed to arrive next week, then I'm gonna head to the beach and try my first night camping in it. Can't find a good mattress to fit the 5' bed though....

I got the Bestop because it was a little less expensive and easier to obtain at the time, and I've had it for at least 5-6 years now. I'm happy with the Bestop, but might have gone for the softtopper if I had it to do over. The difference isn't worth the time/cost of actually switching now though, and there's nothing wrong with the Bestop that would make me feel the need to get rid of it.

After seeing the softtopper in use, the ability to roll/tie the fabric sides would be nice to have (it's possible to flip the side windows of the Bestop up over the top for access without removing them which is almost as good, but there's no way to secure them up there).

For my needs and opinion, there's not really any benefit to having or to not having windows on the sides of the topper, and I'm not sure if the sides and back on the softtopper need to be removed/stowed for folding the top down so I couldn't say whether one is better than the other if you're going to be cycling it up/down frequently.

Thanks for posting this pick. If the bike rails are on both sides, that's the exact setup I've been looking for.

Nothing but praise for my Softopper. High quality, easy to install & remove. Looks sharp and gets a lot of inquiries. Great for camping out in. I originally bought it for my 2nd gen. Will probably sell it and replace with one made the 3rd gen for a better fit.

    Softtopper hands down.

Softtopper: Made in Colorado. Super high quality. Incredible customer service.

Bestopper: made in mexico, quality was ok, customer service was meh.

those of you with the bestop, can you describe or show me a pic of how it collapses?
I have mine and tried it but was worried about bending the front window and creasing it and not sure where to put the sides at the back when it folds up.
The instructions aren't that clear about that.

I can't post a pic at the moment, but I don't think there's a way to fold it down without folding/wrinkling the front window some. If it's only folded down for shorter periods, it shouldn't crease significantly and the wrinkling will stretch out fairly quickly once you put it back up since that pulls fairly strongly on the front end. I left mine folded for upwards of two months in 90+ degree days last fall and it took maybe 7-10 days of being back up for the front window to completely smooth back out. Leaving it folded for anywhere from a couple days to a couple weeks should be no big deal, and you'll never know it was folded after leaving it up and tight overnight.

The vinyl of the window won't go opaque or turn white at the creases (at least mine hasn't) if that's what you're worried about.

Plug for Softopper. Only just installed yesterday, but the customer service was amazing. Accidentally got sent a long bed version and they fired me a short bed version same day I told them. Great people and seems like a great product so far.

Man, I wish the same amount of accessories from Softtopper were available for the Bestop Supertop...

I've had my Bestop for only about a month but I love it already. Having the windows helps me at least when I'm driving in traffic and check my blind spots (I don't trust mirrors when changing lanes at 60+mph).
I got mine from a fellow TW member so I'm the third owner but it was immaculate other than being pre-dusted, haha! The very next day I got it I took it on a camping trip and it made a HUGE difference over having a hard tonneau cover.
So much easier to access my gear and loading back up was not an exercise in tetris.

Looking forward to trying out actually sleeping in it some time soon over this Summer.

The topper itself does a great job,but near the corners of the bed, there are small holes that do allow some water and dust in, but nothing excessive. Only when it really pours

I would consider shipping if you are interested
